There is a much better chance that we sign Eovaldi for 3/65 than us signing Burnes/Fried for 7/240 with an opt-out and forfeiture of a top 30 draft pick.
And remember that when we see these deals published, those are not necessarily the terms that we could have signed the player for. Those are the terms to tie another team’s offer - we may have had to go higher in some cases to win.
Montas 2/34
Boyd 2/29
Burnes at $30 million AAV seems like the floor. Even 7/210 seems like the floor.
I just hope that our owner can be convinced to be for quality and durability. Burnes is a one time fit. He pairs so well with our young bats for a 7 year run.
Elias doesn’t need much more than Burnes in FA over this little 7 year window. He’s got a superstar closer, another TOR SP in Bradish, and a potential TOR SP in Grayson. The bats will be dirt cheap.
This was sort of the plan. The lucky part that we all taken for granted is finding Bautista so early in our run.
Montas got 2/34
Boyd for 2/29
I think 2/44 for Eovaldi is wishful thinking. MLBTR has been light on their predictions so far. Can’t blame them. They had to take some guesses.
I’m thinking Eovaldi gets 3/60+
I have serious doubts that we go 3 years or that AAV. Hope I’m wrong. 🥲
Yeah , if Elias deduces that Burnes does not want resign with the Orioles no matter what . Sure go ahead with Fried , while he’s on him , talk to Eovaldi , Manaea , Bueler, in order of his wants/needs . Don’t sit there and wait on one FA to make up his mind, talk to his fellow FA competitors as well .
True , that’s a sad fact . But I was responding to another poster’s comment about how the Orioles are “thriving competitive “ team that free agents would covet on that basis alone .
While I share his view , what FA covets are 1) money & terms .
