His defense has been there. But yeah, looking more and more expendable. Problem is, we have no other decent OBP guys to bat leadoff. Just based on fit, he might be more valuable to us than anyone else. Hope we can extend him for a reasonable price.

I'd probably be okay with keeping Markakis on in a platoon role next year. Although I'm 100% certain that DD could easily work his magic and find players to give us the same level of production at a cheaper price.

Do we necessarily need to "upgrade"? I don't think it is a stretch to say that one of those players can produce a 1.5 WAR season, or at least something close to it. You then take that money you saved and invest it some place else, and maybe you haven't upgraded RF, but you've upgraded the team as a whole.

Markakis' September may cost him years but the O's will still want him back on a reasonable contract. One or two years/ 8 to 9M a year.
