Memo to Those Attending ALDS Game 1: Let's Give Nick a Standing O in His First Playoff AB

They really should copy that other sport where they kick the balls around and have sections reserved for the die hards who want to do that, and have a little warning somewhere that says "if you buy a ticket here your view of the field may be impacted by everyone standing and cheering and waiving signs and signing and stuff the entire game."

"Viva Jim Johnson

Viva Jim Johnson

We could've won the cup

But he [messed] it up

Viva Jim Johnson".

OK, doesn't fully translate since we're not playing for a cup. But still would be a lot better than that insipid Seven Nation Army chant that is used by about 1,492 teams now.

I gotta say, though, Baltimore fans do it better than pretty much anyone else. At least.

I guess. I'm pretty sure the press releases and announcers of every sports team ever says something to the effect of "we have the best fans in whatever sport we happen to be competing in."

"The football players and management of BYU (Pocatello, Idaho campus extension) would like to salute the best football fans in the world!!!"

I can't find it now, but I remember a quote from Nick after we clinched the al east thanking the fans. He said something like this is

what it's all about, this is why we do it, because of the fans. I don't believe for a second that he doesn't care about orioles fans.

C'mon, folks, let's do this! Nine long years Nick has waited for this opportunity to play some postseason baseball. I'm going to stand and cheer when he comes to the plate, and I urge everyone else who is going to do the same.

This

Wow, Nick doesn't smile enough? Let's Murray his butt out of here.

Seriously, he waaaay deserves a standing O...I wish I was lucky enough to be there to be part of it.

This

Nick has been a solid player, never slacked or feigned injury even when we were terrible, has been a quiet leader in the clubhouse, has been loyal to the team and the city. He got choked up when we clinched and clearly he cares and is glad to have the opportunity. Cheer the man.

This.

The same Nick who cares so much about the fans that he was the only Oriole to avoid the press today before the workout? Good player who gives it his all on the field, but I prefer to hold my standing O's for the players who show some love back. To each is own though.

Everybody is different, and they handle themselves accordingly. To not do so would be disingenuous. Nick Markakis gives his heart on the field and has done so for the last nine years. Who does he do that for? His teammates and the fans.

Truth of the matter is Markakis does deserve a standing O from all Oriole fans, 'fanboys' and all! :)

I didn't know talking to the press equaled love for fans? Man, you must have hated Eddie Murray.

Ok here is the exact quote from nick from an article on sept 16 on mlb.com by Brittany Ghiroli. "Ultimately we want to win, but we're doing this for the fans, that's the main reason why we play this game."

Geez...what an arrogant D-bag that guy!

Yes,but it was hard to tell that was the first bat of of the game. That said, there was a great Nick Markakis chant that went through the crowd to the Derek Jeter chant rhythm. I believe it was when he led off the eighth inning.

Yeah there was definitely a Nick Markakis chant.

    • The Orioles are in sweet and tangy bbq land to play the Fightin' Bob Hamelins for a three game set starting tonight. Fri:  7:40 EST start:  Dean Kremer vs. Alec Marsh Sat:  7:10 EST start:  Corbin Burnes vs. Cole Ragans Sun:  2:10 EST start:  Cole Irvin vs. Seth Lugo KC enters the series 1 game back of the Cleveland Thomes and they're 7-3 over their last 10.  Despite their recent history of ineptitude, they look to be improved this year in the poverty stricken AL Central and they can still give us a hard time.  Lefty Ragans is off to a good start which means we'll be down Ryan O'Hearn for Austin Hays as is Sunday starter Lugo. Bobby Witt 2.0 has an OPS of .997 and already at 1.6 WAR, Old Man Perez is at .943 and Vinnie Boom Bats is .853.
    • This would be fine by me.I know some people said they don't want a bigger scoreboard  Also Nationals Park is upgrading the speaker system but didn't finish the whole upgrade for this  season.         The offseason upgrades (off-the-field variety) that could have the biggest effect on fan experience are to the scoreboard displays in the ballpark. The Nationals replaced their main scoreboard, their out-of-town scoreboard in right-center field and their ribbon boards with state-of-the-art LED displays that feature much higher resolution than the previous models. The size of the main scoreboard is unchanged, but the difference in quality is noticeable, and the clearer and brighter display will feature enhanced statistics and graphics.
    • However you wanna calculate it, he’s a diaper dandy.
    • Westburg exceeded rookie eligibility limits last year exceeding 130 at bats and more than 45 days on the active roster. On the plus side he might qualify as a super sophomore or at the very least avoid the sophomore slump.
    • Westburg shouldn’t be, where are you seeing that?
    • So since Westburg is apparently still ROY eligible, Cowser and Westburg may project to be the best rookie combination since Fred Lynn and Jim Rice in 1975?
    • There were several and I was one them. I'm  on record as saying I was one of his biggest Apologists . You should feel good about yourself as you were able to see that Means would be imploding before our very eyes( which was an opinion or a guess, which is what I did) as far as feeling bad for me? Dont I'm plenty good enough to know I wont be able to guess right every time
