The O's made out a lot better then the Tigers did with Soria.

Agreed. At the end of the day all you ask is that whomever you trade for has a positive impact on your pennant run and shows up when called during the playoffs. Miller has done that to date.

Your almost always gonna give up something to get back a guy who can do that for you. Its the price of doing business

I don't believe in making trades to keep a player away from another team, but it's hard to ignore the thought of how things could be very different if Miller was on the Tigers.

I don't either. But that is how it shook out.

Or the As did with Lester and Smardzija. Or the Yankees with Headley and McCarthy and Prado.

Lester and Shark got the A's into the playoffs, otherwise they would have missed it. And McCarthy was awesome for the Yankees. 1.6 WAR in 90 innings pitched? That was probably the best trade of the deadline, the Yankees just weren't very good.

That is unknowable.

Of course I completely disagree. But that's ok.

Maybe. Their starting pitching did collapse. The question would be was that foreseeable? I think a betting man would probably say that Kazmier wasn't going to keep pitching out of his mind' date=' and Gray would probably hit a rookie wall. And that is what happened.[/quote']

Lester gave up six runs in their play in game. I know KC thumps. But really?

You wouldn't want a pitcher with a 2 something era and a FIP in the low 3's? Or do you think the cost for McCarthy was still greater than the great production they got from him?

I prefer Nuno and he is still under control.

Yeah' date=' Lester came up small in the playoffs. But I would argue that don't even get into the playoffs without Lester and Shark because their rotation just fell apart towards the end.[/quote']

I think they would have been far superior without Beane's trades. But as Corn states. We can't know.

I would probably prefer Nuno too, but not if I'm the Yankees, because Nuno can't pitch in Yankee stadium. I think one could probably argue that even if Nuno can't pitch in Yankee stadium, they sold low on him by only trading for a rental. Even if Nuno couldn't perform for the Yankees, he might have had more trade value than just McCarthy. That's certainly debatable.
