I would probably prefer Nuno too' date=' but not if I'm the Yankees, because Nuno can't pitch in Yankee stadium. I think one could probably argue that even if Nuno can't pitch in Yankee stadium, they sold low on him by only trading for a rental. Even if Nuno couldn't perform for the Yankees, he might have had more trade value than just McCarthy. That's certainly debatable.[/quote']

Ok. So we do agree then. Especially since the Yankees were so far from contention pretty much all along.

I wouldn't say we "agree" per se. McCarthy was a stud for them this year. And if we are going to say that guys like Hader or EdRod are disposable because we have other pitching prospects, or where we drafted them, then we have to at least say a guy like Nuno, who has proven that he can't perform in Yankee stadium, is disposable to the Yankees. I don't really buy the "disposable" arguments, so I'm certainly willing to acknowledge that a guy like Nuno might have had a lot more trade value than just Brandon McCarthy.

I think we agree. The Yankees were foolish to make that trade.

10 outs over the last three games. Putting down three of the Tigers' top hitters while protecting a lead.

He's been HUGE for us this series. If he continues to hold down the middle innings like he has in this series, I don't care who we traded for him.

I agree completely. If we had traded Bundy it would have been ok.

I don't believe in making trades to keep a player away from another team, but it's hard to ignore the thought of how things could be very different if Miller was on the Tigers.

I am definitely think that Dan did factor in keeping him away from a possible ALDS/ALCS opponent when evaluating whether to make the trade or not. He has to attempt to factor everything in, or he is simply not doing his job as good as possible. I am glad that we gave up EdRod for Miller. Besides, there is no undoing the trade now, it happened and that is all there is. The trade sure is looking good right now!

He factored in each of our wins.

Michael,

The Tigers hometown newspaper agrees with you that Andrew Miller may have made the difference in the ALDS.

At the July 31 trading deadline this year, the Tigers tried to get Miller from the Red Sox to bolster their faulty bullpen. Instead, on that day, the Orioles obtained Miller from the Red Sox for a minor league pitcher.

It might have been the best pickup by any team at this year’s trading deadline. Miller was almost untouchable in the final two months of the season as the Orioles took command in the American League East. In his postseason debut Thursday night, he silenced the Tigers for 12/3 innings in Game 1 as he guarded a one-run lead.

It turns out that even when the Tigers obtained David Price on July 31, their World Series hopes might have pulled out of the station that day because they didn’t get Miller — and the Orioles did.

I think it is fair to note that many experts thought that the big movers at the deadline were the big shakers at the deadline. Oakland, who went from the best record in baseball, to losing the play in game to KC. And Detroit, who did manage to fend off challengers for the AL Central, but were totally exposed by the Orioles in a three game sweep.

DD made moves, that have had huge impact, and the cost of those moves look more reasonable each and every day.

Dombrowski.

"We traded for Miller. We gave the Tigers what they asked for. I don't know what happened"

“We were disappointed because we offered what (the Red Sox) asked for,” Dombrowski said. “Normally when you do that, you get the player. They felt they could do better. That is their prerogative.”
