Not only that, but the Cubs don't have much need for more help in the pen. Wood, Howry, Marmol, Wuertz, Dempster, Lahey, Eyre, Cotts, and Pignatiello... It's a pretty stacked pen already.

I'd say it's from from being "stacked" especially from the left side.

Here's the latest Orioles rumor:

Once completed the deal will likely be announced this afternoon or tomorrow morning. League Officials now expect the deal that would send Roberts to the Cubs to be finalized and completed by the weekend. They now expect that George Sherrill to be part of the deal. The O's have no use for a 31 year old reliever in there pen and want to get younger. Sherrill will ensure that the O's will get at least two pitchers in the deal from the Cubs.

Remember to take everything you hear about this deal with a huge grain of salt. Thanks to David Gerstman for the heads up.

HAAAWHATT:confused:

Then why open up a gaping hole in one of those areas to trade with them?

Because we need to trade our most valuable assets at the peak of their value.

BTW, Bigbird, I disagree that the Cubs can't help us with our positional needs. Murton, Pie, Patterson and Cedeno would all help us (not seeing we should get all those guys for Roberts).

Because that hole already exists, on our 2010 team. That is the year we are targeting to actually try to contend. We don't have Roberts under control for our 2010 team. So when you list the potential 2010 team, all you can put at 2B is a big question mark.
