Would you Try to Acquire Howie Kendrick?

Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are likely to deal him or David Freese in the offseason, and are looking for a starter or bullpen arm in exchange. Would you deal Norris for Kendrick?

Obviously we have Schoop and he showed promise last year, but his .244 OBP was just abysmal. Kendrick, meanwhile, had a .344 OBP (largely BA driven) and OPS'ed .744. He's OPS'ed in the low to mid .700s and hit .802 a few years ago. If you want to keep Schoop, Kendrick would play a bit of LF and range around the infield when the starters need a breather.

Would this be a move you would look to make?

This would be a major upgrade for your team next year. Kendrick only has one year left but he's only owned 9.5M which is way below market. Last year he put up a 4.6fWAR compared to Schoop's .6fWAR. I don't think it would require Bundy or Harvey, but everyone else on the farm would have to be available to get a deal done.

But if they need starting pitching, like the article says, we have that too. Norris for Kendrick, two expiring contracts. I don't think they need to go to the farm.

That's not exactly a fair trade as Kendrick is a better player. O's would have to kick in other pieces.

This is definitely something I'd consider. I'm fine going with Schoop in 2015, but this is an opportunity for a short-term upgrade without breaking the bank. And, while I don't think it's necessary, I also don't think it'd kill Schoop to go down and work on some things in a low pressure environment and experience some real success. If he's gangbusters he'll find his way back to the team in some capacity.

Of course, asking price could be prohibitive. But we have some pitching and could take on a little dough.

I feel like Norris could be the exact type of player they want. With Richards' health in uestion, they have Weaver, Wilson, Shoemaker, could use a relatively consistent arm like Norris. I think the 1 for 1 could work.

They might prefer Gonzalez, as they're trying to get out from under the luxury tax. Maybe Gonzo and TJ would do it. Too much?

That wouldn't be enough. I don't see Gonzo having much value around the league with his high FIP (lots of national articles seem to constantly bash him as the weakest link of our rotation even with his good ERA) and TJ is the kinda relief pitcher you can find anywhere. I think it would take something like Norris and Schoop myself... the Angels aren't going to give away Kendrick for some fringe guys.

They are shopping him.

Thanks to the brilliance of signing Pujols and Hamilton they have payroll issues.

I know that, but even if they are shopping him they aren't going to give him away for nothing. Gonzalez and McFarland combined for 1.2 WAR last year combined, thats kind of a tough package to get the Angels to accept for a guy who had 4.6 WAR. Chen or Norris would be more up their alley I think for what they're looking for. Would Gonzo even make their rotation?

The Angels are going to trade Kendrick for a player or players who upgrade their pitching staff and reduce their payroll. They aren't going to get a young stud for one year of Kendrick.

He would have been their number two in the playoffs.
