Nick Markakis wins Gold Glove

But Dyson is nothing but a defensive replacement.

Why shouldn't a defensive replacement be eligible to win the gold glove? Isn't it supposed to go to the best fielder? Is there a whole list of other official criteria I don't know about? It is possible I have never looked up the voting guidelines.

Cain over the last 3 years is at 37 DRS in center and UZR/150s were 23.2, 23.9, and 18.7.

Jones is at -16, and his rates were -5.5, -7.9, and 8.7.

You may not like the metrics, but you can't ignore differences that large.

Outfielder metrics are worthless. Players stats vary significantly. From year to year. Watch the guys play and you can see who is the better player. Jones had his best season in his career in the field. There is a reason the teams runs allowed went down so much.

I could link to defensive metrics that overwhelmingly support my position and while I know they arent totally reliable I think it is clear enough that I am right. And I think Jones has been greatly improved on defense the last few years.

I hate statements like this. Stop trying to sound so superior.

We should have nominated Lough.

I really think you are misinterpreting my tone. I don't feel superior to anyone. I just didn't think my original statement was controversial

Well this is a forum, tone is hard to interpret at times. However, if I did misinterpret your tone, my apologies.

I would assume innings played helps. Since Dyson is so bad at everything else, im not sure playing 2 innings a game in the OF after he pinch runs deserves to be eligible over a guy whos good enough to be a FT player. Just my take anyhow.

I don't think there is any debate about someone like Dyson or Lough. You need to start and get 450+ abs to even be considered. You earn a gold glove through consistent reps, mentioning Dyson and Lough is a tangent that isn't even worth being talked about.

Take it from a guy who lives out here in Royals country, the year before last David Lough was the defensive specialist for the Royals. David Lough was (is) the best fielder among the Royals Outfielders. Gordon is an excellent LFer, Cain is good but not great in CF. Adam Jones is better than Cain. And Nick Markakis is light years ahead of Nori Aoki. Dyson has excellent speed and covers a lot of ground. Beyond that, he sucks at every other aspect of defensive OF. Offensively, he can run and he sucks in every other aspect.
