So much for them not having money.

I've always liked Martin, even though he was a Yankee. But I hope this contract comes back to bite TOR in the ass after a year or so.

Wow-5 years is crazy BUT he is a difference maker. He is like Ivan Rodriquez, wherever he goes, that team wins.....I am assuming he is good with the pitching staff too...

Yeah, can't be true. I was told they don't have money to spend.

Martin picked a good time to have a career year (136 OPS+). He's a very good player, but his timing couldn't have been better. Chances are this is an overpay, but he will certainly do a solid job if he stays healthy.

Five years to a 32 year old catcher?

That will end well.

Hard to predict the Jays' payroll. Their parent company is huge and if they wanted to they could easily spend with the big boys. But their parent company is also a huge corporation so every now and again they have to make cuts.

Funny a bunch of Martins "value" is tied to his pitch framing

So... will he catch the 200+ innings of Dickey, and even if he does pitch framing won't make a difference.

Toronto is out to win the off season again.

Never the less I bet they still struggle to finish at .500

You both got me on that one. I guess if they resign Cabrera I'll really eat crow. They still won't be good.

He will be a 2 WAR player within two years.

Pretty much. His average value in his career according to fangraphs has been $15.4 million per year. So let's give a 32 year old catcher $16.4 million per for 5 years. Yeah that makes sense.
