My priority would be signing Delmon Young at this point, and I would have no problem offering Delmon a 2 year deal. With Cruz now gone, Delmon will pick up a bigger role on this team as a RH DH.

DD likes to working his tan until Jan or so before making any signings:) Tell Delmon to stand by the phone:)

Bumping this instead of starting a new Delmon Young thread.

Do we have LF platoon in the making?

Delmon Young crushed left handed pitching. He will be 30 this year. Below average D.

de Aza hits right handed pitching pretty well. 31 this year. Solid corner OF.

David Lough actually hit RHP pretty well (.749 OPS 2014) and will be 29 years old. High level defender at 3 positions.

None of them are definitely platoon players, they can each play LF or RF, and Lough can play CF. Are these three a viable LF/DH/4th OF combination? The 4th guy getting DH at bats is still up in the air. Maybe its Pearce?

No, they will not provide the power we got from Cruz, but I don't see anyone who will replace that production.

Hopefully rebounds from Davis, Wieters, Machado will replace most of the production collectively. I like the mix you describe, although signing a Kendrys Morales to low risk deal would work for DH too.

It was actually opposite last year. His slugging and OPS were both higher than his career numbers vs RHP.

Career vs RHP vs LHP

SLG .407 OPS .715 SLG .467 OPS .806

2014 vs RHP vs LHP

SLG .452 OPS .809 SLG .424 OPS .722

Now that Cruz has signed w the Mariners, it's time to seriously consider signing Delmon to that 2 year deal.

I believe he will only become more valuable to other teams as well - as time passes forward. Btw, I thought he was supposed to be our primary DH before the late signing of Cruz in February? Looks like a pivotal time to get the contract going, unless we play it on the super cheap and bring up Christian Walker as our new DH ;)

He was so valuable last season he signed a minor league deal.

Oh dear God let's hope they have a better plan than that. Delmon Young as a full time DH would result (most likely) in the O's having to come up with 4 wins elsewhere. And there's absolutely no reason to give a guy a two-year deal to be the short half of a DH platoon.

That's kind of like saying "now that Roberto Alomar has signed with the Indians, its time to seriously consider signing Jeff Reboulet to that 2 year deal." If there's anything that will drive the Orioles to a Championship it's locking in replacement-level talent for multiple years.

He was so valuable last season BECAUSE he signed a minor league deal.

It allowed for the Orioles to naturally select him and his talents. I am just g

Ad Steve Pearce did not get away. Because with a full healthy roster, theirs was the redundancy.

I think if we signed Young and expected more than we did last year (a DH against lefties and a PH), we will expose him and not like the results.

I'd refer you to my earlier post regarding his numbers last year and add he had nearly double the amount of PA as a RHB.

The idea that he was used exclusively vs lefties is incorrect but I do agree that more than 200 to 300 AB probably exposes him and he reverts closer to his career norms.

On the other hand, confirmation bias is comforting when invoking attitude polarization. ;)

You weren't as geeky when you first started posting on here Jon.
