It could be this.

I'm gonna vote no. Maybe you make this trade AFTER signing Cruz and Nick but not before. Also, 6 years control of a prospect could turn out more disappointing than Davis's year last year

We likely wouldn't be able to sign Cruz if we don't get Chris' 10+ mil off the books.

Gotta stick with CD. Unless they blow us away. That 1 for 1 swap doesn't work. That would be risking losing Cruz, Davis, and Young in the same offseason. Plus you gotta expect Pearce to regress a little bit, especially if he just isn't used against LH pitching. And he always has wrist issues the more he plays. Realistically lets look at the team. You have Jones, Schoop, and Davis as the only players currently on the roster without injury ???? We have TOR pitching depth in the minors and Tillman,Gausman and Gonzo cost controlled. We need cheap bats if anything. In a market where Laroche is turning down 12 mill a year, I don't see how anyone can say Davis has some outrageous arb number.

Keep Davis. Sign Cruz. See if we can get a young corner OF'er for Norris.

Sounds like a plan to me. Gomes/De Aza LF, Lough/Pearce RF.

I've been 100% against trading CD low, and I've been very confident he'll rebound next year. But I'd do this trade in a heartbeat.

His value can get lower.

Calculated risk for more pitching. Duquette is on record somewhere talking about the importance of pitching. Not sure I need the link to back that up.

One year of Davis for 6 years of Heaney is an interesting thought.

Interesting? Wildly enthusiastic is my take if there is any truth to it.

Somebody hand Dan a pen...

Many things are calculated risks. Bringing back Chris and hoping he rebounds is a risk. If he does and signing him to an extension is a risk. If he does rebound and we let him walk for a pick who almost certainly will not turn out to be a top 30 pitching prospect, well, I'm pretty comfortable with the idea trading him away for Heaney carries much less risk.

Make sure the pen has ink.

Reading the scouting report on Heaney took me back to 2008... I feel like a lot in there was practically copy and pasted directly from Brian Matusz's scouting report. Not saying that he will end up being no better than Matusz, but their reports are eerily similar and it reminded me that prospects are just that...prospects. If we trade CD for Heaney, I wonder how close Heaney + Schoop could come to landing Altuve. :scratchchinhmm:

Altuve? He of the one good year and 4hr average? We'll just bench Schoop, Trade Davis, take our chances with Cruz and Nick so that we can sign Altuve. Great plan.

That outfield platoon idea stinks. I have zero interest in a two headed platoon in the OF. Lough hasn't shown me squat. Pearce could easily be the Pearce from two years ago. I'm hoping De Aza is the one from two years ago and takes over the lead off slot. Gomes .270 w/ 4 homers in 200+ ABs ....wow how bout some more mediocrity.

I think you just checked my math.

There's so much stupid with this post I don't know where to start; I'll ignore it and expand... CD didn't even figure into my plans for next year. I figured you have Pearce play first. Altuve is going into the 2nd year of a 4yr/$12M deal that has 2 options after that. You can get a 24y.o. emerging stud leadoff hitter which this team desperately needs for cheap. He has a skillset we need that Schoop will never offer. And I'm not sure how you think this move precludes us from signing Cruz or Nick either (who quite frankly, we can get a comparable player like Melky instead of anyway). Genius.

    • So since Westburg is apparently still ROY eligible, Cowser and Westburg may project to be the best rookie combination since Fred Lynn and Jim Rice in 1975?
    • There were several and I was one them. I'm  on record as saying I was one of his biggest Apologists . You should feel good about yourself as you were able to see that Means would be imploding before our very eyes( which was an opinion or a guess, which is what I did) as far as feeling bad for me? Dont I'm plenty good enough to know I wont be able to guess right every time
    • Fantastic pickup by Elias and big kudos to O’Hearn for taking advantage of the resources to improve. He’s a great story.
    • Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.
    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
