Once you factor in his age and compare him to other players improvement is pretty likely.

Of course if he can't sustain his defense then it might not matter.

I am not 100% certain he can maintain that level of defense.

Because of his size.

So he wasn't really that good last year? Either he was and they were wrong or he wasn't as good as we thought he looked.

He appeared to take ownership of the position defensively. Playing on good fields with great complementary players.

Or he could have been that good but that was his ceiling as a defender and he will regress from there. Players do have peak defensive years just like they do offensive years.

There is a reason folks say you have to look at two full seasons before judging defense by the metrics.

I have no idea if this is true. But I had a co-worker that kept up with all baseball stats.

Schoop's HR's/power came against some of the worst pitchers in baseball.

I'm just not sold on Schoop as a player. Just my opinion doesn't make it right.

It's hilarious how wrong this is.

Schoop was an almost automatic out. Surely we can find a better second baseman

And we had 3 other players just like him. Flaherty, Davis, and Joseph.

How about these all stars

Pedroia, D BOS 2B 135 551 72 153 33 0 7 53 51 75 6 6 .278 .337 .376 .712

Kipnis, J CLE 2B 129 500 61 120 25 1 6 41 50 100 22 3 .240 .310 .330 .640
