Shouldn't be a problem for the best defense in baseball.

Ok, that's it, this has to be the longest freaking offseason ever. I guess it's the getting to the ALCS and not any further or just the non-action for the O's in general, but reading that (best defense in baseball) instantly made me think of our new lefty getting a grounder for a beautiful Hardy/Schoop DP and I realized I need to see some O's baseball. And I guess that isn't happening for another 27 months....or so it seems.

Ok, back to the signing, nice guy, good pickup, glad to have him!

He allows .04 HR per 9. That's good Right? Can't accuse him of "meatballin'"

If someone can explain the drop in his K/9 I will be much more excited.

Its probably nothing. There was no noticeable drop in velocity. He threw his change a little less in 2014 than he has over his career but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. He faced a slightly high % of righties in 2014 compared to his career averages which might have played a role. In the end, one season of statistics for a reliever aren't particularly meaningful since they throw so few innings per season. Had he struck out five more batters his k/9 would have been more like 7.8% which wouldn't have been too far from the norm.

Maybe those five guys grounded weakly to short on a 0-1 pitch.

Right handers have a .834 OPS against him career wise. I would say he is a LOOGY
I thought a left hander with better numbers against righties was what DD was looking for. This guy is as much of a lefty specialist as Matusz.

Not since 2011. Proximity counts in relievers.

Should mean our defense will be in action while he is on the mound (unless he get's that k/9 back up of course)

OFFNY will love this guy! :D

His name in lights after striking out the side to clinch the division in 2015 will be great to see.

Wonder why the Cubbies would non-tender him? What was he projected to receive in his final year of arbitration? Just curious...
