Jim Duquette: "I wouldn't be surprised if Wieters is delayed."

I believe it will occur. You know, to get the 8 million dollars in value out of him.

First of all, I want a more reliable source than Jim Duquette to say that Wieters won't be ready to catch by opening day. He started throwing 120 feet yesterday. The distance to 2B from home plate is 127 feet.

But second of all, if Wieters isn't ready to catch on opening day, I think he needs to start the season on the DL. I don't want his first live action behind the plate to occur in a major league game that counts in the standings. He will need some minor league rehab games, and they can't just send him down to do that if he's been on the active roster.

You make sense here.

I don't think they will get 8 million dollars in value out of Wieters as a DH only. He's really a platoon DH as he's a below average hitter vs RHP anyway. It would only be acceptable if he's taking Delmon Young's roster spot, which I think is unlikely.

Weams? What are you doing?

Jim Duquette did not say that Wieters would be delayed. He said he would not be surprised if Wieters did not start the season catching. Pretty big difference.

Jim is not claiming any special insight here. He said based on what Buck has said there in no specific date for Wieters at this time. That it could be 2 to 4 weeks after the start of the season but no one knows. I've heard Buck say this months ago.

Listen to the interview. Jim is not break news here.
