The AL East just continues to get on my everloving nerves as a fan, and it's not because the other teams are division rivals of ours... it's because of abuse of money and power, and garbage like this.

New York and Boston trying to buy their way to a title every year... Toronto and New York involved in the current shenanigans in trying to sabotage our front office...

If they'd let us change divisions tomorrow, it'd be my dream come true. Heck, even get the Rays out too... maybe to a place where they'd have an appreciative fan base instead of the void area they play in now.

Yes, good points about Toronto, but did you intentionally leave out leave out "where they steal your signs"?

I don't mean to stear this into a political discussion, but Canada is a Socialist state. Canada is where everyone shares everything... their signs, their GMs, their underwear, etc...

I completely agree with the OP here and it's about time the real villains are talked about. What Toronto is doing is tampering plain and simple and they should be investigated for it. I for one am outraged by this. It's one thing to seek Duquette for the position at the very end of the season but to have all of these "leaks" come out right before the Winter Meetings and again a few days ago is simply unethical and whoever said that it's the fans that are getting screwed is dead on. It's all about the timing and the way that the Blue Jays have single-handedly cast so much potential turmoil upon our franchise. It's truly disgusting and they should be penalized for it.

source - Toronto Sun

Rogers called White Sox executive vice-president Williams — without permission — and then called White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, who is Beeston’s best friend.
Tampering?
The word from the Rogers campus is that they want Beeston’s current job split between a president of baseball operations and a corporate type from Rogers looking after the business side.
So much for that reported CEO part of the job.

All of this is correct wildcard. I agree with everything you have written here. I hate the Blue Jays now more than ever. But I have one concern and one only. Dan Duquette seems to be ok with this process.
That's what I'm wondering about. Why hasn't DD said anything about this? Doesn't he truly care about the ethics of all this?

What Ed Rogers, Chairman of the Toronto Blue Jay is attempting has never been done before. Never has a major league baseball team stolen a successful GM from another team and at the same time put a division champion in the same division at a disadvantage by leaving them without a GM. Its never happen that I can find.

Rogers motive is fairly transparent. The Blue Jays have not been to the playoffs in 22 years. Their GM Alex Anthopoulos is in the final year of his contract. Either he wins or he is gone. He has finished 4th, 4th, 4th, 5th and 3rd. The odd are not with him.

The ploy of a promotion of Dan Duquette is a ruse. Yes, he may get a President's title but titles in baseball don't mean much. Dan will likely become the President and GM in waiting. If Anthopoulos fails to make the playoff in 2015 and Dan is the new Blue Jays GM. While Peter Angelos is being made out to be the bad guy for keeping Dan from a promotion the truth is that its likely a lateral move in disguise.

Some may bring up Theo Epstein's move from Boston to Chicago with one year left on his contract. But, in fact, its nothing like what Rogers is trying to pull off. Epstein was in a power struggle with President Larry Lucchino in Boston and they were glad to see Epstein go. The Red Sox granted permission for Epstein to interview. Ben Cherington was the Assistant GM and ready to be promoted in Boston. Not at all like what is happening with Duquette. There is no one ready to take Dan's job. No one with the GM experience that knows the Orioles.

Most of the time when a GM moves from one team to another its because he has failed in his current job. Walt Jocketty was let go from the Cards before he went to the Reds. Sandy Alderson spent time in the Commissioner's office between move from the A's to the Padres to the Mets. You don't find successful GMs stolen from a team the way this is being attempted.

So lets call this what it is. A Heist. An Attempted Robbery of a division rival that is meant to disadvantage them. And the only thing that stands in the way of it being successful in Peter Angelos and his four year contract with Dan. I hope he prevails.

The more I think about this situation, the more I agree. Peter should just force Dan to stay here and honor his contract. Or he should demand an absolute King's Ransom from the Blue Jays. If Dan stays, Peter could just have him more in an advisory role while Buck and PA choose the next GM. Why give the BJ's a year's head start on beating us to the next Wei Yin Chen?

He is in an extremely awkward position. It makes no sense for him to say anything now. Of course he would be interested in exploring a promotion with more money and more power. But he cant do that unless PA gives his permition .So he should say nothing until that issue is resolved. He has little say in this so he should say nothing.
