    • Let's also give credit to the Elias regime on Felix Bautista. His walk rate was abysmal prior to the majors. A 5.1 BB/9 in the minors, but he was at 6-7 at times. Being able to get him sub 4.0 BB/9 is a big deal. Strikeout rate went up as well.  Obviously, we know about Bradish's growth. We can also look into Povich over the course of year based on improving his control mid-season, changing his pitch mix, abandoning certain pitches, yada, yada. They also did wonders w/ Jorge Lopez. I could keep going on, but I do think there's something to be said about the O's from a development standpoint. We just haven't seen a draft -> majors success story for Elias, yet. But there are plenty of examples otherwise. Pitching has largely been a success under Elias for years now.
    • Just because a guy isn't great by the age of 25, but merely good, I think it is disingenuous to say he hasn't been developed properly. Further, I dispute the idea that Rodriguez was "unprepared" when he came up.  He pitched poorly for his first 10 starts of his major league career, went down for 3 weeks, and then came back up and dominated. Is every adjustment period to the major leagues evidence that a guy was unprepared? I think not. I mean you have your theory, but the evidence you're providing to support it doesn't really hold up under scrutiny.
    • I had same thought. Fine prospect but indicative of declining depth in the system. Which is understandable to a degree.
    • Montgomery is a player you consider but he shouldn't rush out to acquire him. Again, the roster spots are very limited. We need to make sure what we acquire is a true and definitive upgrade over what we have. Is it definite that Montgomery is better than Povich or even Rogers next year?  Maybe. I think I would say its more than likely hes better but I don't think its some slam dunk. There are some positives that you can build off of but I think people see the 2023 version and just assume he will be that guy.  A big drop off in K rate and a big increase in BB rate are 2 worrisome signs for a pitcher who is on the wrong side of 30. He certainly could have just had an off year and will bounce back to a 3.5-4 ERA guy he had been previously. If other options come off the board, he should become someone that you go after if he can be had cheaply. Mounty should be traded but I agree that he shouldn't be dealt for a salary dump either.
    • Sounds like Teoscar Hernandez to me (not sure how tall Teoscar is).
    • He was terrible for us in late 2022 for his short stint, but then they tweaked him. There's been a number of articles, here's one: https://www.baltimoresun.com/2023/04/24/orioles-reset-how-a-mechanical-tweak-to-his-nasty-stuff-turned-yennier-cano-into-one-of-baltimores-best-relievers/ Relevant area:
    • Do you think Grayson has lived up to the potential that everyone saw? He was starting to, but once again became injured. My concern is Elias is too cautious in his approach to young pitchers and it makes them unprepared when they first come up.
