Charlie Williams Obituary: Traded for Willie Mays

Recommended Posts

The only player that was ever traded for Willie Mays (Giants-Mets, 1972) has died.

Williams was born and raised in Flushing, Queens, the site of Shea Stadium, and now Citi Field. In fact, he became the first Flushing native to pitch for the hometown Mets organization in 1971, when he reached the majors.

Williams pitched for 8 seasons in the majors (1 for the Mets, 7 for the Giants) between 1971 and 1978.

Charlie Williams was 67 years-old.
