Henry Urrutia

I have always liked the way this guy plays the game sense he came over from Cuba a couple years ago, and like everything Buck and DD have said about him this off-season. Hopefully this is the year the lights come on for Henry and he becomes this years Steve Pearce and come out of nowhere. Everybody knows the O's sure could use it this year, we will see in a few weeks.

On a kind of aside note we have several position guys that are going fighting for the last spot or two , should be pretty interesting.

OF/DH Henry Urrutia

OF/DH Nolan Reimold

OF/1B Chris Parmelee

OF Alex Hassan

C/1B J.P Arencibia

C/1B Ryan Lavarnway

1B/DH Christian Walker

INF Ryan Flaherty

INF Rey Navarro

INF/OF Jimmy Paredes

It's always good to have solid competition and that's what we will have, we also have several good young pitchers that are going to be banging down the door.

Just for fun pick two of the of the above and tell us why .

1. Henry Urrutia . He will hopefully have a strong ST and be the lefty side of the DH platoon with Delmon. This spot will probably go to whoever has the better spring between Urrutia and Parmelee.

2. Jimmy Paredes. I know Buck loves Flaherty and his D , but I think this kid Paredes has a lot of potential too much to let go. He can play 2B/3B and has RF experience with the Astros.

Parades looked over matched at 3B last year while Flaherty did pretty well at 3B. That being said, Flaherty I believe has options so whoever has the best spring might be the one who comes north- although my money is on Flaherty to break camp with the Os.

I think Parmelee and Reimold break out. Parmelee has killed it in the minors and will benefit from getting away from Target Field. I really think he will be the best acquisition this off-season (not that there's a lot of competition). Reimold has always had decent skills at the plate and just could never stay healthy. If he is healthy I think he can be a great option at DH if Young is hurt or ineffective.

Urrutia sure was fun to think about patrolling the Os outfield, but I was perplexed when he got to AAA and simply turned into a singles machine. Then he got hurt and kinda washed out with the tide. I've read he's put on some muscle and looks great in preseason warm ups, so I'm definitely excited for him to make waves this year.

Now that I think about it, having Reimold, Urrutia, and Alvarez in AAA makes me really happy.

I like Parmelee as well and hope he produces for the Os. If Riemold can keep healthy, he could be a scary addition.

My money is on Walker, Parmelee, and Flaherty.

Other than Flaherty, do any of these guys have a shot? If De Aza, Pearce and Young are in your starting nine, and Snider, Joseph and Flaherty are the bench that day, that leaves one spot. Lough, probably, as he can backup CF and can run.

So, none. The answer to which of these guys is likely "none."

If the bus hits a manatee and three starters suffer broken kneecaps, three of this group will be ready.

1. C Wieters

2. 1B Davis

3. 2B Schoop

4. 3B Machado

5. SS JJ

6. OF Jones

7. OF Pearce

8. OF De Aza

9. C Joseph (Ward)

10. IF Flaherty (Navarro)

11. DH/OF-RH Delmon (Walker)

12. DH/OF/PH-LH Travis Snider (Urrutia)

13. OF Lough (Alvarez)

I think our roster is pretty much set but the guys in parentheses are the "next man up" if anything happens to our starters. The acquisition of Snider really squeezes guys like Alvarez or Navarro who could have had an outside chance at breaking camp.

I like what Duquette has done. We have options at every position who should be at least replacement level and maybe better.

Schoop, Flaherty, and Lough are the most vulnerable to losing their jobs. That would make Navarro and Alvarez the most likely to win a spot but I think you have to favor the incumbents.

Alvarez as the CF, I assume?

Spot on.

That said, Walker has a bright future and I am a bit intrigued with Parmelee.

Good analysis, but I think Arencibia now ranks higher on the depth chart than Ward. Clevenger and Lavarnway probably too.
