OFFNY
o Today is Pat Underwood's 58th birthday. Whenever I here his or his brother's name (Tom Underwood), I always think back to a This Week in Baseball episode that I saw in the late 70's in regard to Pat's major league debut. I remember that the younger brother was making his major league debut against his older brother, and that they were arm-in-arm after the game, celebrating the younger brother's first major league win in his career debut. I wanted to make sure that I was correct, and sure enough, when I looked it up on baseball reference, Pat Underwood's career debut was indeed against his older brother Tom, in May of 1979. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR197905310.shtml It was, appropriately enough, a real pitcher's duel. Tom pitched a complete-game, ceding only 1 run ..... but that wasn't good enough, as his younger brother Pat out-dueled him by throwing 8.33 shutout innings himself in a 1-0 victory for the Tigers over the Blue Jays. Happy birthday, Tom.
