"Next man up" is kind of crowded

The 25 men that will be on the O's is fairly set. And Dan is the master of accumulating the AAA adds each year. But I think he has out done himself this year. The Norfolk roster looks crowded to me.

Here is what I see:

Starter

1. McFarland

2. Wilson

3. M Wright

4. T Berry

5. Z Davies

6. Gamboa

Pen

7. Drake

8. Jones

9. Steve Johnson

10. Hendrickson

11. Pat McCoy

12. De La Rosa

Extras

Galley

Cabral

Roe

Yoon at AA

1B. Walker

2B. Navarro

SS. Janish

3B. Tuiasosopo

C. Arencibia

LF. Parmelee

CF. Alvarez

RF. Reimold

DH Lavarnway

Bench

Urrutia (has to play a lot)

Bordon 4th OF

Ozzie Martinez IF

Clevenger

Extras

Hassan

Almanzar (AA?)

Ward

Freitas

Booker

Gibson

Halton

Lot of experience here. So help me out. Who goes and who stays? Looks like a lot of players if Buck needs to call on replacements.

Wow, seeing it all laid out like that it does seem like a lot. I'd like to see Parmelee get at bats at first. I know Walker is slotted there and you definitely wouldn't want to start platooning guys in the minors that you hope can become everyday players but Parmelee will never be an OF for the O's and Urrutia should probably be getting in as much work as possible in LF.

Is there still a chance that we move Norris or another starter?

Hopefully we have no injuries in ST but I would have to believe that Gonzo would be starting the year in AAA (since he has that option) as Jimenez would be given that last rotation spot because of his salary.

I doubt we could stash Jimenez in the bullpen doing cleanup duty, Whats the plan!?

I can't see Gonzo going to AAA for any length on time. He will be in the rotation or the pen IMO. Jimenez has to prove he is better than the other five starters. Wallace when asked at Fanfest what would be done to fix Jimenez said "Everything we can". That indicates a knowledge on his part that Jimenez is not where he needs to be. That probably means he starts the year in the pen.

To make room there is probably an injury during ST or Matusz or Webb get traded. If one of the Rule 5 guys look better then them both could be traded. In situations like this in the past we have seen an injury happen. Jimenez steps in a hole or someone's hammy gets sore.

This is a good "problem" to have.

For myself, for so many years between about 2001 and 2008, the situation was the opposite, which was really painful (in the sporting sense) as an Oriole fan.

I began to see some hope near the end of the 2008 season with my "Original Big Ten" list of starting pitchers that were excelling at the highest levels of the minors (Advanced-A, AA, and AAA), but we didn't completely right the ship until 2012.

I'm thrilled to have a big crowd fighting for the last couple of spots for what is now a perennially winning team.

What was your original big ten? Did you have a thread for this?

Impressive. And that doesn't even consider Bundy...

How many major league teams do you think they could beat?
