-Jonathan Schoop: 'I think I'm a better player than last year'

-And Machado snickers

Seeing these two topics right next to eachother probably wasn't done on purpose but it made me laugh.

I hope he's matured enough to not snicker.

If anything Machado would want him to make the bigger money since hes a good comparison for when Machado hits arbitration next year.

Exactly. This is bad news for Machado (and good news for the Orioles).

Was gonna say... MLBPA union brothers stand strong together!

If he still holds a grudge about Donaldson doing absolutely nothing to him, I'd be very concerned.

Side note: Did Orioles fans really start disliking Donaldson over tagging Machado in a completely normal fashion? I don't recall him doing anything else that would cause contempt from Baltimore-ans.

I think some of his comments to the press were uncalled for. He had the chance to take the high road and chose not to.

That was my thinking as well. I'm not sure how Machado will be able argue to make more than $4.3 mm next year, when you consider that Donaldson is coming off back to back seasons of 7+ rWAR. He'd sure have to have a heck of a season.

I chalk it all up to things that happened in the heat of the moment. I think everyone on both sides should just forget about it and move on.

Donaldson was a super-two this season and Machado will have completed his third year, so the situation is not quite analogous. Still, I can't see Machado getting much more than $5 million in 2016.

Do they base the determination on rWAR?

I don't know what the arbitrators consider. They are certainly allowed to consider it, and I am 100% certain it would not be the sole basis for a determination, and probably not the primary one, either. Still, rWAR doesn't just pop out of the air. Donaldson had an .887 and .798 OPS the last two years, with 20+ HR and 90+ RBI each season, finishing 4th and 8th in the MVP voting. He's also considered a plus defender, and he played 158 games each season. Those are the reasons his rWAR is so high.

I see your point. I guess those numbers make a play 4+ million dollars right now. That seems like a lot too. I guess he may have won if he had asked for 4.9 million.
