"Nix is a proven professional shortstop and an excellent competitor. He should add depth and playoff experience to the club."

Dan Duquette

Sounds like Nix already won a bench spot. I'd honestly rather run Flaherty out there everyday. I don't really see the purpose of having Nix, unless DD has decided that Flaherty, Paredes, Navarro, Janish and Martinez are all incompetent backups.

To be honest I doubt anyone else other than Flaherty has much of a chance at the backup spot. Everyone else is there for either depth in case Flaherty is hurt or even worse than usual, perceived competition to keep Flaherty on his toes, and the always fun possibility of lightning in a bottle.

If Schoop is still posting a .605 OPS by the end of May, we may well see Schoop in Norfolk and Nix as the UTIF while Flash takes over 2B.

That's plausible but it really depends on other guys too. Navarro or Janish could play that same role.

I doubt it. Their D isn't as good as Flaherty's. And Buck likes him some D.

It wouldn't be a comparison of Flaherty to the others, it would be Nix versus the others for the utility spot.

By the way, I still believe keeps running Schoop out there unless he develops the yips defensively.

Doesn't sound like he has won a spot at all. He was terrible last year. He will be given a shot but I really hope Navarro wins the spot. Of course, Nix does have the opt-out clause and might very well leave the organization if he isnt on the OD roster.
