Wieters DH'ing and Catching in Spring Training

I think lost a bit in the Everth Cabrera shuffle is the fact that Wieters is going to DH until March 17th, and then catch mostly for the following 2 weeks (Buck said this in a radio interview or TV interview, sorry I dont have a link).

What does everyone think about this? I take it as a very good sign that he will be our starting catcher on Opening Day.

That's my take. Everything seems on track, but until Wieters is behind the dish in games, we won't really know.

Agreed, but this is the first confirmation that Wieters will be behind the plate at all during Spring Training. It's certainly something to get cautiously optimistic about.

For some reason, I am more worried about Manny being ready to go by Game 1 of the regular season, I think Matt will be just fine.

From everything I have heard Manny is well ahead of last season's schedule.

Hardy's back worries me more then Manny's knees.

I don't know. Didn't take it as very optimistic. Won't throw in a game until March 18 and they were impressed he could carry his kid in has arm?

If Wieters is healthy enough to catch, there's zero chance the O's will carry three catchers. They'll have enough of a roster crunch as it is.

Who gets cut if you carry 3 catchers? You've got 7 guys (Pearce, Snider, DeAza, Lough, Young, Cabrera, and Flaherty) to fill 5 spots (LF, RF, DH, and 2 bench spots) if you go with 2 catchers on the bench. This doesn't even account for guys like Reimold, Paredes, Navarro, Nix, Hassan, Alvarez, and Janish)
