Sun: Showalter focusing on the little things.

Here's an interesting article about how the organization is focused on seemingly low level issues to improve the club. I was especially interested in the emphasis that is being made on improving defense in the higher level Milb teams. I was a little confused about all of the "defensive specialists" the team was acquiring but Buck's comments helped clarify their thinking. It's good to know we have leadership that knows who we are as a team and is seeking to build on that.

Seems Buck has restored attention to detail...what used to be called ''The Oriole Way.'' Buck is god.

When I boil it all down, if I had to say who is the most indispensable person in our organization, it's plainly Buck. He instills a work ethic, an attention to detail, and a set of priorities that leads to winning. I realize the team didn't win until Dan got here, and he and MacPhail both made big contributions, and there are several players who have been huge keys to our success. But in the end, Buck has done more than anyone else. His players are prepared to play winning baseball.

Here's today's gem:

The Orioles are piping in crowd noise from two playoff games at Camden Yards to simulate conditions during fielding drills.

"When we do pop fly calls and priorities, we're going to have that playing over here," Showalter said, pointing to the Ed Smith Stadium field. "What happens on the back fields, when you do pop fly calls and priorities, it's not a big deal. We're going to do where when the ball leaves the bat, you start turning the volume up more and more as it's coming down, just like it is in the games, so when it's actually coming down nobody can hear anything."
