What statistical outcome do you see from full seasons of Machado and Weiters?

Low 800 OPS's and near full season of play for both would work for me. For whatever reason I feel Machado has the ability to break out in the 850 OPS level or higher.

If Matt Wieters does not have a good year, he will cost himself 50 million dollars. I figure Manny is a superstar when healthy. Six years from his prime. I assume that Travis Snider is better than Nick Markakis this season. In every way.

I'm wondering whether the TJ saps Wieters power, at least for this season. I hate to put it out there but I am concerned that he may only hit 10-12 HRs. Maybe someone has some insight on how TJ affects batters.

Not me, but someone did the work.

It probably has a similar result to giving up PEDs for lent. Cruz was ok.

I think Manny's going to come into his own and have an .850 OPS, MVP contending season. My default expectation for Wieters is a career average, .740ish season, though I'm hoping for more. I'd be surprised if our overall offense doesn't slip a little. People keep talking about the guys who are coming back from injury, but injuries occur every year and 2015 won't be an exception.

I think those two make up for Cruz. 40-ish HRs, 80-ish added RBIs. Of course that's two players for one...

I see Snider easily covering Nick's stats. Less OBP, more power. A wash in the field.

I'm a little more bullish on the homers. I think full seasons get us about 50 homers between the two. Let's call it 25 and 25 for now.

I've said it before but manny's power looked a lot better than I thought it would in the back half of the season before we lost him. Some balls really started carrying for him.

Machado: .280/.325/.455/.780, 24 HR, 90 RBI

Wieters: .240/.300/.410/.710, 20 HR, 70 RBI

Overall: .260/.313/.432/.745, 44 HR, 160 RBI

I think those numbers look a little low on Wieters...

His career line is .257/.320/.423/.743. He's only had one season (2013) with an OBP lower than .319. Further, his last three full seasons he has eclipsed those home run numbers? Are you predicting further struggles by Wieters (using 2013 as "struggle")?

    • Not a chance. Someone will take a look at him in their pen if the Orioles try to move him now. Somebody will ultimately need to be sent down, go on the Jimenez pothole IL, or get DFA'd.
    • I’m skeptical how much the lack of scouting report matters nowadays. They have all the same data on pitchers in AAA as they do in the MLB, you can figure out a lot about a pitcher without ever having someone there watching them. Not to discount that additional value, just to say it’s not like the old days when a guy could come up and be pretty much unknown.  Plus Suárez just pitched a lot in Spring Training and was pretty much exactly what we saw yesterday.
    • I definitely agree that we keep him in the rotation for as long as he is effective. It’s just with Bradish and Means coming back there’s that inevitable roster crunch incoming with all the out of options RP.  If he can maintain 96 as a SP and stay healthy then he should be a SP. He has 4 pitches even if relies heavily on the four seamer and cutter, but you could see him working in other pitchers more as he turned the lineup over. However, I’m skeptical he can actually maintain that velo with a SP workload over the course of a season and not get hurt. Big spikes in velo are often correlated with injuries, and you could see him running out of gas towards the end of his start yesterday and he threw less than 80 pitches. A bunch of 93s on the radar gun in that last inning.
    • I think it’s possible he would agree to be optioned, but he has 5 years and 7 days so being optioned for more than 3 weeks would cause him to not hit free agency this offseason. Once he’s optioned he can’t contractually force the Orioles to call him up quicker than those 3 weeks. They could make some sort of handshake agreement on it but it would be putting faith in the Orioles to stick to that. If he’s confident he’s healthy and as ready as he’s going to be, even if the Orioles are not, he’s better off rejecting an option.
    • Obviously they weren’t going to hit at that level, but this slump is surprising.
