I don't like the idea of Cabrera starting over Schoop but idk why they sign him if that's not the case. Cabrera has only had one good offensive year so I believe Schoop would provide more offense. Schoop also ended the year defensively leaps and bounds compared to where he was earlier in the season last year. Once he was given the 2B job he became a more consistent player.

LF. De Aza

3B. Machado

CF. Jones

1B. Davis

DH. Pearce

C. Wieters

SS. Hardy

RF. Snider

2B. Schoop

Would be my default. Even if Cabrera is the starter over Schoop it wouldn't change much, I don't like him in the lead off spot.

I'm surprised no one's said that lineups don't matter. Either some Hangouters are slippin', or they're getting nicer.

I would like to see Manny hitting 3rd at some point this year. If he's hitting 3rd on July 1, that means he's having a good year, which is a very good thing for the offense.

vs. R

De Aza

Pearce

Machado

Jones

Davis

Wieters

Hardy

Snider

Schoop/Cabrera

Buck would never have 3 RH bats in a row.

Maybe so. Jones and Machado don't have much of a career split differential, and Peace was good against righties last year. I guess Pearce behind Davis is the move if alternating R-L is so important, I just like the idea of getting Pearce's OBA in front of the power.

I agree with El Gordo about Buck not putting the 3 righties in a row.

I also think Pearce's OBA vs. RHP will fall this year. He seems more of a bottom-of-the-lineup hitter rather than top.

I like Manny 2nd against everyone.

I'd consider Pearce for leadoff against LHP, but he can hit down some against RHP to start the season. Maybe Manny 1 Pearce 2 vs. lefties if Buck thinks leading off would be too weird for Steve.

If both Cabrera and Davis play well enough to merit it, I could see Cabrera/Machado/Davis/Jones coalescing as a top 4 against everyone.

Schoop has a power bat which could give us 15-20 HR's which will come with a low OBP and a ton of K's. We have plenty of those guys. He will always be a below average secondbaseman but what we really need is someone who can get on base. Cabrera has been somewhat successful of that over his career. It's worth a shot.

What do you base this on?

Barring injuries this lineup is going to be so super fluid. It's not worth trying to figure out the one lineup. Buck has so many options.

3B: Machado, Schoop, Davis

SS: Hardy, Cabrera

2B: Schoop, Cabrera

1B: Davis, Pearce

LF: De Aza, Young, Lough, Cabrera

RF: Snider, Davis, Pearce, Lough

None of that includes Flaherty who could play every position. I think he ends up in AAA, where he is given a full time roll.

Below average at the plate. Good defense and strong arm. He's not going to be a star but just a bottom 3rd power bat. We really need more OBP.

I don't understand how you can predict his entire career off his rookie season.

I mean I sit hear and tell ppl I believe Manny will be injury prone throughout his whole career and I get a lot of negative responses. Schoop is what, 23, 24 yrs old? And you could already tell what he will be throughout his whole career?

Hopefully the Os hire you as a player evaluator. With you, DD, and Buck the future would be blinding!

    • I would feel better about this game if he would foul off a few close ones with 2 strikes-like Kjerstad did last night-instead of just watching them go by. Take those pitches on the outside to the opposite field.  If your expecting 1 pitch but get another, fight it off.
    • His path to staying in baseball is as a utility player. The more positions he can play, the more likely he is to stay in the league. Good for him. But I don't anticipate him back in Baltimore. We saw them go Kjerstad when Hays even though the team is very lefty heavy. With Mateo getting looks in CF and Cowser able to play there for a bit, there really isn't any role that he's next in line for (or even 2nd or third in line). Even learning 2B doesn't get him in a next in line position given Norby.
    • In my book, he’s had two outings that were awful and three that were decent, including yesterday’s.  My guess is that if he has a decent outing on the 27th, the O’s won’t go through gymnastics to try to find a way to extend his rehab, even though his ERA has been a train wreck.
    • Why is Tony still batting 4th?  Move Westy to #3 and Mounty to #4; or vice versa but good grief Hyde... come on.... Tony should be down at the 7/8 slot.
    • Holliday looked a lot more confident last night and his defense is improving.  I don't think he's "getting better", I think he's finally relaxing and his natural ability that he's worked on over many, many years is taking over.  It's like he's been thinking too much about every action you take while swinging the bat vs. just swinging the bat and his muscle memory taking over.  I'm predicting him heating up a little bit.  It might only be to hit .200 w/ little power for the next week, but should be enough to keep him up.  The line drive (if weak) right at the pitcher was another encouraging sign that his timing is getting on track.
    • Especially on an away day game after a night game.
    • It would probably be better to give Adley a day off when we are facing a righty considering how many LHH that we have. Anyway, Adley is on a roll right now, so I'm not sure you want to take his hot bat out of the lineup.
