Chris Davis wants to see Orioles commit to the future before he does

(I have no issues with players maximizing income btw, I just would prefer them to be honest about it)

I don't even care if they are honest about it. But the reality is that the Orioles have spent more money than they ever have. In what has been a very down economy the last few years, and won more games than any other American league team over the last three seasons. The Orioles formula appears to be working. Not the Boras formula.

I don't like being lied to. I especially don't like it when it is a clumsy, obvious lie that assumes I'm an idiot.

This isn't the WWF, oops I mean the WWE. It is more like a press conference for a politician embroiled in a scandal. Just because someone else wrote the lie for them doesn't mean it isn't a lie.

It's his free agent year. He is coming off a year of awful production and the biggest drug scandal in Baltimore since Raffy. He needs to act it up.

I have very mixed feelings about these player statements. On the one hand, I want to tell them to shut up and play baseball. On the other hand, I agree with some of the skeptic posters that the O's organization is getting a lot of credit for a good bit of luck and the work of a great manager. The O's success is not the result of some grand Orioles plan IMO. Hiring DD was a somewhat desperation move that turned out way, way better than everyone thought it would. The O's were lucky to get Buck and they even hired the manager and GM in reverse order a la the Angelos way. I trust DD's ability to do what he's doing and I really admire Buck, but I don't trust the Angelos family to continue to do the right thing. The O's got very, very lucky with Cruz, Pearce, and some of the other moves. I think pretending that the O's have figured out some magic formula is assuming that all that glitters is gold.

But I really hope I am wrong! And for goodness sake I can't wait for the season to begin.

This might be the last straw for me.

Sorry he has ADHD and got caught using medicine for hit.

Sorry, that he has Boras for an agent and will want to test the free agent market and demand big $$$$$.

Now this crap. SMH

Chris have a great year for the Orioles, hit a ton of Home Runs and help us win the Pennant, and let me pack your bags after the season is over.

Signing Cliff Lee, Prince Fielder, Bronson Arroyo, Carlos Beltran, Jim Johnson and Nick Markakis would have afforded the team far worse "luck." And I am ridiculing myself as I was in favor of some of those names.

I agree. In fact, I think he is a hypocrite in that, yes, he would prefer to win, but he sure didn't mind coming to a loser from Texas and if he had to choose money or winning, guess which one he would choose. Or, excuse me, that Boras would choose. Money to pro athletes gets tied up psychologically with their ego in what they seem to always refer to as "respect"- namely, what can they compare with their fellow players announcing how good they are. Davis (I mean Boras) will pick the most money even if it came from a dead last team (although most dead last teams are rebuilding and are usually not going to be offering the highest money deals).

To call him a hypocrite because he was traded while under team control is a reach.

Don't hate Chris so much. It is part of the price for selling your soul to Scott Boras. All his players talk this stuff to the media.

So far MLB has about 54 nine figure big $$$ contracts, and the vast majority of them sucked for the club.

But the billionaire owners make SO MUCH MONEY. It's not fair! I'd go for this. Let's take 1 million dollars off the top of every free agent contract to pay for inner city baseball. You know, so those kids can travel and get seen.

I'd be happy to see MLB set up a fund to pay for new stadiums and improvements, so teams stop robbing local, county, and state governments. Also, they could pay back all the money put into stadiums and spring training complexes over the last 20 years. That would take enough money out of the owners' pockets to trim free agent contracts a little.

    • There’s another accomplishment from 1983 I’d like to match.
    • I'm more of a Prime Number guy, I'm happy enough with 89. Round numbers are for suckers.   Pretty disheartening they haven't managed to reach that relatively meager goal in 40 years.
    • Still with a chance to do this for the first time since 1982-83. Would be one more nice accomplishment for this organization.
    • The weird thing about our bullpen is that they rarely blow leads.   They have a 69% save rate, 4th highest in baseball.  They make it scary, but generally, when they have the lead, they get the job done.   Where they are really bad is keeping games close when we’re down a run or two, last night being a classic example of that.   This year’s team has 32 comeback wins, compared to 48 last year.   Why is that?   Part of it is obviously on the offense, but part of it is that the bullpen doesn’t keep us in striking distance when we’re behind.   One way you can tell this is by the W/L records of the starters and the bullpen.  Last year, the starters were 57-40, this year they’re 60-49.   The starter got the decision 12 more times this year than last year, including 9 more losses (with 3 games to play).   That tells you that when the team is losing when the starter is pulled, they keep losing.  Meanwhile, the relievers were 44-21 last year, 28-22 now. They’re not picking up wins because they don’t give the offense a chance to catch up and get the win for the bullpen guy.
    • I do not disagree with above posts.  Also I am pretty sure that this time last season, the Texas Rangers Hangout was saying the exact same things as the Rangers Pen.  Point being, you never know until you know.  The pen is shaky, but is capable of putting together a solid run from time to time.
    • Roster Resource thinks it has tonight's lineup and Kjerstad on bench again. He is 7 AB shy of 130 MLB regular season AB with 3 games left, and if he ends up short some prospect list makers may still label him one.    If still with the Orioles, he will be 26 years old by Sarasota. I think the OP has its answer as it has been Cole and Lopez these two nights and the team is preparing for that intensity.
    • I care I bet the over on 88 wins, looked like a lock now not so much, come on O’s, daddy needs some new shoes
