2015 Minors Spring Camp

For years the Orioles Minor League camp at Twin Lakes Park was an isolated outpost only frequented mostly by minor league players, coaches, minor league front office staffers, parents of players, the famous Ray Bergeron, myself and a handful of regulars. Those quiet days are long gone since the Orioles moved to Sarasota. Major league players are often worked into the games and Buck Showalter and his staff are frequent visitors. Fans have discovered how relaxed the atmosphere is and the stands are well occupied. Fans can bring their own chairs, but finding a vacant shady spot is difficult. You can?t beat the entertainment with two games going on, free admission and parking. Bring your own food and lotion.

Todays? scheduled pitching:

As an example of major leaguers being worked into games here, today Kevin Gausman pitched for the Delmarva Squad and Wei-Yen Chen pitched for the Frederick squad. You can expect Buck to send the starters over here from now on whenever an AL East opponent is playing the Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium. He prefers to hide our starters from the Orioles primary opponents that way. I?ll give you the schedule, but it went out the window before the games started. So much for well- laid plans by the Minors staff. Chen ate up more than 5 innings and Gausman 4.

As one gets older, the players look younger and younger. Today a met a player who looked like he was about 16. Turns out that SS Luis Hernandez is 16. I?ll try to post his photo in another thread. They like his bat. He is a switch hitter they are working into playing SS (as opposed to a SS they are working on his hitting).

Here is the way pitchers were scheduled before Chen and Gausman entered the picture:

Bowie: Kline (3); Keller (2); Bleeker (2); Urban (2).

No cuts this week, but I expect the roster to be trimmed a little by the end of next week. It?s still growing as they are sent over from Major League camp.

Doc, is Michael Burgess still with us and if so have you seen or heard anything on him? Thanks as always

He is listed on the roster but I haven't noticed him personally as the AAA and AA teams have been away while I have been at Twin Lakes. Burgess is now 26 and in his 8th pro year.
