Duquette wouldn't return agent's calls?

Ed Norris on 105.7 just said a reliable source told him this. He said he was told when the whole Toronto fiasco was going on, DD wouldn't return phone calls from agent's. Said that's what made Markakis so upset. If this is true, and DD wasn't giving the O's his full attention how does that make you feel? Just curious, because it's the first time I've heard someone on the radio come out and say that's what a source told them.

So, someone told Norris, and Norris told his audience, and you're telling us. Sounds like a game of telephone. Not worth discussing.

Also, sounds like they just weren't interested in bringing Nick back. But, we gotta have something to continue this stupid story line of DD being a traitor who's secretly sabotaging us because MLB needs to be more like pro wrestling. I think people are expecting DD to take off his mask and hit Buck with a steel chair.

The big reveal will show that all along, it's secretly been Cito Gaston under the Duquette latex prosthetics.

I'm not calling Norris a journalist, but you are aware that is how journalism works? I wouldn't dismiss it because of how it happened, but you can probably question the source being that he's not a traditional sports journalist.

So someone's source should only be questioned if you are not a sports journalist? I think most of the sports media is an absolute joke. There are some things that do not pass the smell test. Duquette being so upset about the O's not letting him walk for a promotion seems like a very viable response. Not returning calls from agents is unprofessional, but not illegal. This entire fiasco is something MLB needs to fix moving forward. The story can be swept under the rug, but it shouldn't be IMO.

I'll say this: whether or not DD returned calls from Nick's agent doesn't change the fact that ATL offered him an absurd contract, and that we wouldn't have come anywhere close to matching it - for good reason. So the fact that Markakis is in ATL because he was ignored by Baltimore is a moot point to me, because nobody would stay with their hometown team for 3/24 when they could go to another team for 4/40 or whatever he got.

I have dealt with people in many ways over the years. I have found over the years that when some people want to make a point, they will change "I" to "we" or to "all of us", when in reality it is just one or two or three. For instance, "phone calls" may refer to only one instance or two instances, but may get exaggerated. There may also be a reason why DD did not return some calls from an agent or two. Did the source take a poll of agents to find out if DD was not returning phone calls? Did Markakis talk to other agents? I doubt it. Markakis is just upset because the O's did not want to match Atlanta and pay that price for a player that is having some injury issues. I can't blame Markakis for being upset and I can't blame the O's for not matching Atlanta on a player with injury problems.

I never said that did I? I agree that a lot people are masquerading as journalists these days. I merely said that dismissing a story because you think someone reporting something from a source is a game of "telephone" is super faulty logic.

I don't think DD is Undermining the Orioles.

I think it would be foolish to assume that what went on this off season with Toronto didn't not effect DD and the Orioles off season in some way.

I normally agree with you. I think it would be foolish to determine that Ed Norris would know something about this and that it would be indicative of anything. Whether the distraction caused issues or not. I blame that on Toronto and Ed Rogers. I am just glad we came out as unscathed as we did after that tampering.

I tend to believe Norris. It is pretty evident Markakis was not happy with how things went down. He didn't complain to Bob Nightengale for no reason. He never mouths off. Then Adam Jones, a close friend of Nick's complains about the very same issue? I don't think this was DD not doing his job, Frobby has a good point. I think this whole negotiation ticked Markakis off and not returning calls makes sense.

Sorry, none of this makes sense. Did any of the real Oriole Beat reporters say anything?

I remember Roch writing an article and it was DD business as usual and wasn't letting the Bluejay stuff affect him.
