You can claim that Gausman is on the same level as the others but Buck doesn't see it that way. That's becoming pretty clear.

And once again folks act like Buck makes all the shots.

Gausman might start in the minors or the pen, but if he does it will be because Dan put him there.

The treatment of Gausman is odd to say the least. Anyone remember when he was pulled up after having the flu to start a game. I mean I just don't think you treat one of your best prospects like that but who am I to question.

Buck and Dan will be making their decision based on who they think can help the team win as many games as possible in 2015.

If they have 5 starters that are pitching well and one who is not that makes the decision easy for them. Its not about tenure. Its about winning.

It's not about tenure it's about track record versus ST, and it's also about money. Otherwise they would have DFA'd Ubaldo.

Makes no sense. Why would you want to re-sign here when your team treats you this way? Why they're not high on him is beyond me.

Well good thing he is under team control for 4-5 more years. If you want to remain blind that is up to you, but they clearly are not "down" on him.

And he may be right. But if Norris does not prove to be healthy he is on the DL. If he doesn't show better control, he is in the pen. It's up to Norris to show what he can do at this point in the spring.

I think he's losing his grip on a spot period.

Even if they were willing to DFA Ubaldo there is no reason to do it before the final cuts.

Or would you have DFA'd him for the spot on the 40?

Buck might not be able to stop Dan from sending Gausman to the minors but if you think that Dan can tell Buck how to use his roster I have a bridge to sell you

Agreed. Look at all those save opportunities KRod got in 2013.

Gee thanks. He isn't in comparison to the other 5. He hasn't nearly as many IP and he costs the least. If any one is the odd man out it's him.

No matter what, eh? Just cost and IP are the only determining factors? Not performance? Well, let's just pencil in Norris right now then and if craps the bed in the first five or six games, who cares? At least he's got Gausman beat when it comes to IP and how much money he makes.

Gausman's performance/track record isn't better than any of the other 5. And before you bring up FIP, just check the thread were Buck says in effect we are a pitch to contact defense kind of team.

Even discounting FIP he is the youngest and has the highest ceiling. That alone indicates that going forward he has the greatest likelihood of improving.

If you stop and think about it, the fact that he held his own with the rest of the rotation last year is a pretty strong indication that he will be one of the stronger pitchers in the rotation this season.

Who said anything about track record? Again, you're perfectly fine with sending Norris out there no matter how many bad performances he has leading up to OD just because he has a track record of being a slightly better than average ML pitcher. That's a low bar. I want the guys in my rotation to perform, as in present tense. You don't win the job based on tenure.

    • Particularly impressed by Coulombe last night. Not only did he strike out the side, it was all against RH batters thanks to the pinch hitting they did. They looked pretty much helpless against him.
    • He did a good job of pitching to Conforto without giving him a pitch to hit, unlike the Judge walkoff. In this case the tying run was on second with an open base, whereas Judge was the tying run at the plate, but the situations were similar and Bautista/Adley handled it much better.
    • Yes last night really underscored the importance of even a 6 inning start. Makes BP management a lot easier!  And more effective.
    • That’s the worst you got?  I’m in the car listening to the bullpen game, Perez in with a 2-run lead and a runner on.   “There’s a line drive that hits the top of the wall!   (Pause, during which I’m wondering where the runners are following this hit.) ….That’s Naylor’s 8th home run of the year and the score is tied at 5-5.”   WTF?  I literally started screaming in the car.   It’s aggravating enough that Perez gave up that homer, without Melanie misleading me into thinking he hadn’t.  It was so bad that I turned the game off at that point.
    • Yeah, I hadn't seen those orange Giants jerseys before. Seems like orange should be an O's thing. I found it irksome as well.
    • I agree it’s harder than it looks for sure. If nothing else Melanie proves that because as you’ve stated, in other aspects of the job she’s perfectly fine.    Kevin Brown, to me, has a great feel for the drama of each individual at bat, pitch, game when needed. Yes he has his goofy moments, but when the chips are down in a big spot, he treats the situation with the correct amount of gravitas, as well as excitement if it’s the Os doing something good. (Obvious exception is during the innings where they are doing a booth interview). His calls of big plays these last couple years are memorable, whether it’s a play at the plate, big HR, huge Mullins catch, big strikeout, etc. He also talks about each at bat pitch by pitch, speculating about what the pitcher is going to do, and leading the analyst to give his thoughts (particularly good paired with Ben for this - in fact a lot of Ben’s improvement is down to working with Kevin). He’s really good and I think maybe a little under appreciated here. There’s a reason he’s getting National work, even if it’s on lower profile games/sports for now   Melanie just sounds like she’s chatting with friends in her seat at the game, with the game itself secondary to whatever she’s talking about. Zero feel for the drama of a big moment. Zero feel for any moment that doesn’t involve Jim Palmer and pancakes.
    • Just to pile on here, so grateful for that OH poster's tip to switch to the synchronized radio feed for audio alongside the video feed in the MLB.TV app! Refreshing to hear the radio PBP which I haven't experienced much since my transistor-radio youth.
