Start Gausman out at AAA

You could DL Bud with his back anytime you needed. But it is still just practice right? I heard that Bud is being thought of as the Starter for the home opener. Either he or Ubaldo.

Perfect practice makes perfect....and right now he's far from perfect anything. You really believe these guys get nothing out of practice and ST? The preparation that goes into everything before the season starts? You know better.

They are both starting pitchers. It is hard for a manager at the start of the year to get guys enough work anyway nevermind trying to do that with two starters in the pen. It isn't about who is better it is about maximizing your depth and keeping options open. Those two guys might been gone no question. Even if you get rid of both a Rule 5 guy takes one of the spots. I think whoever it is it would be foolish to keep a starter in the pen to start the year.

It about having the O's best pitcher on the team. That is how the O's win. Keep there best pitchers.

If Gausman starts out in AAA that doesn't mean he isn't going to start a lot of games. They can buy some time and see where they are at. You also can't assume that the starts Gausman will miss would take the place of poor starts from someone else. Tillman and Chen might be our two worse pitchers in April, they aren't going to the pen.

Are you guessing? Or is there some fact there?

Guessing from what I have seen and heard. They want to keep Garcia because of his up side. He is doing well enough to hold on to a spot in the pen. The 6 starters are all better pitchers than Matusz or Webb.

Then why wasn't Gausman up all of last year? You think Brach is better than him? Why was TJ kept as a Rule 5 guy in 2013? This is April, not October.

i don't like the idea of a starter getting inconsistent work in the pen. They aren't going to use Gausman as a weapon out there anyway.

Why not? Gausman is a weapon where ever he pitches. He can get consistent work in the pen. I'd rather see him in the rotation though.

Anyone else worried about Garcia facing lefties?

Now you are saying that Gausman will prove to easily be out 3rd best starter. I think that's quite possible. I do not think he has proven to be our 3rd best starter (easily) as of this moment.

If Gausman is ready to easily be our 3rd best starter, the hitters in AAA should be a cinch. He should put up a sub 2.00 ERA down there, right? I have no problem with him doing that for a month and forcing the Orioles to make room for him.

No, I said he IS and it will be proved out. Aren't you three hours ahead over there? There is no one on our staff currently who I believe is as good as Gausman was when the season ended LAST year.

So, again if that's the case then you explain to me why Bud Norris should not be in the BP with the garbage he's currently throwing up there and/or why Gonzalez should not go to Norfolk instead of Gausman.

And this assumes Wildcard's prediction that both Matusz and Webb are gone so it's possible that no one has to go. On the other hand, I do realize that since we don't need a 5th starter right away someone could go in order for us to keep Garcia, though this poses a problem later.

Gausman still had some thing to prove at AAA last year. He has done that. He is a major leaguer now.

Games count as much in April and they do in September.
