Depth move for AAA or does he have a shot at the backup spot?

26 years old with two career MLB plate appearances.

Has spent time on Cardinals 40-man roster, but currently a non-roster guy with Rockies.

Hell of a leap. He looks like an organizational guy. Good power but nothing else, he was only acquired for cash. If they acquired Welington Castillo then you might have something there.

Perez is well-known in and around the organization for his catch-and-throw abilities - so well known in fact that he was named by Baseball America as the best defensive catcher in the system

Just because they're catchers doesn't mean they're any good. Arencibia is on his way out I'd bet.
