BAD NEWS: So does our offensive production. Turns out my fears last time were well placed.

Hopefully some games against Boston, Philly, Toronto, Cleveland will help us get the offensive numbers back up some.

Takeaways:

Great to see things trending in the right direction on both fronts!

Our offense is back up a few ticks, and our pitching / defense just continue to be awesome. We are now the 2nd best team in our division at run prevention, which is pretty cool. Not sure if we can catch Tampa in that department, but the nice thing is that we shouldn't need to because they are so bad at scoring.

Just like we likely won't catch up with Toronto's offensive production, but we shouldn't have to.

We had the 2nd best ERA in the AL in May, so that shows what this team is capable of I think.

So our offense obviously got a nice boost although unfortunately we're not quite caught up to New York yet. I think it's definitely doable though.

Our pitching numbers got a bit worse after facing Toronto, but only by a bit.

With Boston, Cleveland, and Texas coming to close out June, I think we will see our numbers get even better by July.

Hopefully Tampa's inability to score will soon catch up with them. They have the 2nd worst run differential in our division which shouldn't usually correspond to a first place spot.

I really don't think the Yankees offense can sustain 4.72 runs/game. I look at their lineup and it's not that good. The Jays are the team that worries me the most, because their offense is that good, and if they acquired a good starting pitcher before the deadline it could have a huge impact. The Rays have really surprised me this year, and I really don't know what to think of them.

So yea, playing Boston and Cleveland seems to have helped. Both sets of numbers improved yet again. Meanwhile the Yankees got even better on offense (booo) but regressed significantly with pitching/defense (yay).

It'll be interesting if we can get close to our 3.43 ERA mark of last year (good for 3rd in the AL). Our 3.67 is good for 5th at the moment but it seems to be trending in the right direction.
