October 2012 was even colder than this game in Boston today. It's just not a good excuse for pitching poorly.

I could buy it if this game was an outlier. But it's not. His velocity has been down so far this year. And that's a concern for primarily fastball pitcher. Which is why I wondered if he was hurt. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if it was just this game.

Thinking back on that groundball to Machado, do you think his mistake was coming in on it as if to short-hop it? Looked like he ended up in no man's land. Not sure he would have had time to sit back and wait for it w/ Victorino running though.

Doesn't Chen have an awful track record in Fenway Park? Maybe with the off-day Buck should have skipped Chen's turn. Total hindsight of course, Bud Norris hasn't exactly been lighting it up.

The reality is that more of these type of sloppy games happen in lousy weather early in the year. It was not colder in 2012 either.
