TT: Abbreviated Bundy report and other Bowie observations

Dylan Bundy was removed after after he threw three pitches in the second inning due to a lengthy rain delay. This was the first time I've seen him pitch live in two seasons. Threw an easy 90-95 MPH with good arm side run. Only one off speed pitch, but it was an 84 MPH slider for a K.

Hopefully I'll see him longer the next time.

Bobby Bundy replaced his brother after the delay and looked like a typical Double-A right-hander. 89-91 with a little run, a 86-88 cutter, a 82-84 slider and an occasional change up to the lefty. None of the pitches were really average major league offerings unfortunately. Rowen throws 77-80 MPH with a little slider. He gets a ton of sink from his submarine slot and batters seemed to hit everything into the ground. With his lack of velocity he'll have a very, very small margin of error in the big leagues. Basically he'll need to keep proving it as he moves up the ladder.

Unfortunately I had to leave before Mychal Givens threw and I really wanted to see him. I did however talk to a scout during the rain delay who saw him earlier this year and he was impressed by the jump in velocity from that angle (low side arm). He has concerns on whether he can command his fastball in on righties as he pitches primarily away in the outing he saw. He also pitches almost totally away to the lefties he faced as well so more needs to be seen.

As for Hardy and Flaherty, their timing still looks off at the plate, but they both looked like they could move on defence.

Other quick impressions:

- Esposito still looks to have a slow bat.

- Yastremzski had a good jump and took a good route to a deep left center drive that he hauled in. He rocketed a 95 MPH pitch in the first inning up the middle.

- I want to like Glynn Davis since he's from my high school (lol), but nothing excites you when you watch him play.

I know I repeating myself, but the more I see of Yaz, the more I think he will out perform the original scouting report and be more than a 4th OF on a good team. At least in AA, he makes contract with the ball at almost every at bat and hustles his butt off.

I have seen Givens pitch a couple of times now and he WILL be protected on the 40-man this year. Imagine if Joe Jordan would have drafted him as a pitcher like everyone else.

Yaz belongs in AAA, just no room. It's a shame because he is the best player on the field there by a large margin.

Brandon Snyder's defense on Sunday was atrocious.

Glynn Davis had a heck of a game on Sunday. Looked amazing at the plate. My buddy is a fan. I don't know enough about him to comment.

Random comment: Latimore. Who is he? He dropped a fly ball (lost in clouds) on Sunday and looked lost at the plate. Got pinch hit for. I don't know a thing about him.

Ozzie Martinez might not be able to hit, but sure is a good SS.

Chris O'Brien-walk off grand salami on Sunday-fun to watch!

It's just size. To be a full time OFer, you either need power or an absurd OBP like Shoo or Suziki.....it's possible, but uphill battle. I agree though, dude does not belong in Bowie.

I like him as well. I see some David Lough in him.

Them's fightin' words in these parts!

Shame you didn't get to see Givens. Certainly impressive numbers so far this season.

Yeah, I couldn't believe he said that. Yaz is actually going to be a good long-term piece for someone unlike Lough IMO.

Tony can you offer a comparison that would give insight into the difference between Yaz and Davis? On paper, they look like similar prospects. Davis a full baseball year younger than Yaz, has consistently moved up through the system since he was drafted out of CCBC. Yaz you'd expect to move more quickly since he went to college.

Davis doesn't look to have the power numbers, but reports have said for years that he's one of, if not THE fastest guy in the organization. Their BA/OBP are almost identical in their minor league careers, but Yaz has shown more pop. Is there that big of a gap in their skill sets that makes Yaz a likely 4th OF and solid ML contributor and Davis organizational filler?

MMMMM, Markakis has neither. LOL

Sorry, I love Nick, just cant help the snark somethings.

Seriously, I like what I see from the guy, he seams major leaguer at me, but I am not a professional scout.

Haven't been too impressed with Glynn Davis, but, my buddy has seen more games than I have and loves the guy, so who knows.

Not sure why DD brought Snyder back, I thought his days was long over with the club.

Organizational filler.

Or maybe a coaching prospect.

Markakis does have a high OBP? Not Shoo from last year, but still higher than average. Definitely for our team:)

They brought Snyder in to help with the offense. They were struggling. Smart move actually but he isn't a real solution for our big league club.

true, hadn't consider coaching prospect. hate to think we are taking up AA space with org filler.

Back to Yaz, saw one at bat last year, that really impressed me, he worked the count to something like 3-2 and then fouled out something like 8 pitches and finally got a pitch to hit, and looped it into the corner for a standing triple.

Sad that nobody in single A was doing anything to warrant a promotion, but I guess that is why Tony-OH said they were very thin there.

So you don't think center field is a premium defensive position?
