Paredes

I almost felt like Paredes getting picked off changed Jones' at bat. I think he was pissed off at the plate and it was in his head.

This X 1,000.

Jones was furious when he passed first base after grounding out. It shouldn't be an excuse, but the guy is human, and who among us didn't feel like throwing a brick through the TV when Paredes got nabbed at first? AJ's concentration had to be affected, also.

Tillman gave up 4 runs in nearly 6 innings. He fell short of a QS by 1 run and 1 out! To say he had a terrible start is the overstatement of the week. I could understand if he got blew out, but that clearly did not happen. Agreed that he did not have his best stuff, but the results are what they are!

To be fair it could have and likely should have, can't expect Delmon Young to play GG defense all the time, been much, much worse.

Going off memory here, and I'm a little old, but I'm pretty darn sure that this isn't the first time Paredes has made a bonehead decision on the basepaths.

You are correct. He got doubled off second base on a line drive in Toronto (as RZNJ mentioned), and it seems like he's been gun-shy about running the bases ever since.

In one of the home games against Boston, Paredes was at second base and inexplicably didn't advance to third on a single. Buck was still shaking his head over that one during his pre-game conference the next day, saying he'd never seen anything like that before.

There was another play where Paredes was on first and should've easily advanced to third on a single to left-center, but somehow he got caught between second and third and almost got thrown out trying to dive back into second. He just seems unsure of himself.

Between Paredes, De Aza, and Cabrera, the O's have a lot of semi-fast guys who aren't good at running the bases.

When he first came up I thought his game might compare to Andino. I was just hoping for a guy that could give good ABs and put the ball in play. I can't remember seeing anything like this.

I dunno. If the team expected him to play (mainly hit) like andino, I doubt he would be here in the first place as his defense is a huge concern.

Yeah -- he's proven to me that he's capable of hitting for a cycle and not just by luck. That's as well rounded a hitter as you can hope for. This guy is a huge find, a castoff from an excellent Houston Astros farm system who couldn't quite crack the KC Royals 25-man in 2014. We've now picked both Paredes and David Lough off the Royals in successive years.

    • Westburg shouldn’t be, where are you seeing that?
    • So since Westburg is apparently still ROY eligible, Cowser and Westburg may project to be the best rookie combination since Fred Lynn and Jim Rice in 1975?
    • There were several and I was one them. I'm  on record as saying I was one of his biggest Apologists . You should feel good about yourself as you were able to see that Means would be imploding before our very eyes( which was an opinion or a guess, which is what I did) as far as feeling bad for me? Dont I'm plenty good enough to know I wont be able to guess right every time
    • Fantastic pickup by Elias and big kudos to O’Hearn for taking advantage of the resources to improve. He’s a great story.
    • Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.
    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
