Would you consider trading for one? Cueto for one year at 10M? Have to give one of Gausman/Bundy plus, but he might put us over the top.

I like Cueto. His 240+ IP last season does concern me. I don't think I pull the trigger if it costs me one of Gausman/Bundy/Harvey.

If the O's could add one player what should it be? A Cruz type Moo bat?. A TOR or a Back of the pen RP a la Miller? Or something else?A bonafide lead off bat? For my money it would be the TOR. We could actually add that if we were willing to give up what it takes for Cueto or Hamels.

1) Nelson Cruz

2) Andrew Miller

3) Jake Arietta

in that order ( if only we could have hung onto what we once had - probably a WS team this year.

No way. Rarely will any one move "put you over the top." Look how well Oakland's acquisition of Lester and Samardzija turned out. I suspect they wouldn't mind having Addison Russell back. Same goes for our trade of Rodriguez for Miller. The reality is these moves only marginally improve the odds of a team's chance at a championship. It's just one player who has to perform in a small time frame at a high level, subject to all the usual variables. Sometimes it helps, other times it does not, but it's essentially a lottery ticket. Low cost lottery tickets are nice, but giving up the sort of guys - Harvey, Bundy, Gausman - required to bring back a Cueto or a Hamels is just insanity.

The best approach to a title (aside endless funds a la NY) is to field a competitive team year after year. Sometimes things will break your way. Other times they won't. But to go "all in" by trading away low cost, high upside assets is ensuring a short competitive window.

But it costs two of them plus. See Bedard, Erik. Well, maybe not quite that much.

Except it doesnt. So terrible "fix." is there a correlation, yes, but it isn't overly strong. And if anything, it is getting weaker now. But don't let facts keep you from trying to sound smart.

Yes by all means... show me the facts.

You would want Hamels? You think he would do well in ALEast?

The answer is simple.

    • What were the expectations?
    • And the difference with Cowser and Holliday is the team around him. Right now, our lineup is deep and talented, which allows them to let Holliday struggle through without majorly affecting the outcomes of games. Plus there really isn’t an incumbent player pushing him for time. Hays was the entrenched starter last year when Cowser came up, so the only way he was going to play in a pennant race was if he hit as he has this year. The problem with Holliday is purely this: unrealistic expectations. Give him some time. We will reap the benefits of this patience later in the season. You add his bat to what we already have?!?! Watch out!
    • This should be merged into the thread in the minor league forum.   https://forum.orioleshangout.com/topic/51777-seth-johnson-2024/#comment-3104271
    • Hard to look at his start as “just a slump” when factoring in his second half of last year, too.
    • Aren't the Tides struggling enough already?
    • Not even a platinum glove is worth that kind of abysmal production at the plate. Elias should capitalize on Hays' option and send him to Norfolk to play every day. If there's an injury to one of the OF's on the major league roster or he gets into a groove at the plate, call him back up. Give Stowers an opportunity - even just as a sparingly-used 4th OF - to reward him for multiple seasons of good production in the minors.
    • Is this a serious statement?  Did we find out if Cowser was “cut out for the majors” last season when he struggled? Did we find out about Grayson last season when he struggles so much that he had to be sent down? Just curious, how long have you watched baseball? I ask because I have read several of these hyperbolic reactions when the kid hasn’t even played a full week of games and the first thing that I a think is what is this poster’s frame of reference? Have they not watched various top players/prospect struggle when first coming to the show? I don’t mean to be insulting but it get’s a little exhausting reading these type of instantaneous indictments of a 20 year-old uber-talented kid who has not found his groove after 25 ABs.
