This may sound crazy, but-

before putting him on disabled list, could we have ?

1.offered him back to Red Sox, with everyone knowing that he has tendonitis,

2.perhaps have gotten him through waivers, etc, since he is hurt and no one would keep him on 25 man roster,

3. and then sent him down if the Red Sox declined.

1. Yes, but we wouldn't do that. Dan obviously likes him.

2. He wouldn't have cleared waivers.

3. The Red Sox would never decline to take him back.

Good question though.

Yeah a team declining to take someone back usually only happens when it was a minor league free agent that got picked. Prospects almost always go back. Mets took Verrett back in a heartbeat.

Is he not with Texas anymore?

2 things on Garcia:

1. Palmer the other night said the amount of time he has to be on the roster excludes September, meaning September doesn't count towards the time he has to be on the roster. I believe this is incorrect, but I am sure others heard this so wanted to clarify to be 100% sure.

2. Britt was just on MASN and said the Orioles are going to have a very hard time keeping Garcia. It sounded to me like she thinks he will be offered back at some point. Just wanted to relay.

I believe Palmer is wrong on that but I thought the same before. If the Os can't keep Garcia, he will get claimed before he makes it to Boston. Orioles have already done so much of the hard work in keeping him.

Palmer is wrong.

There is nothing that says outright that September counts, but there is also nothing that says it doesn't count.

Here is a Baseball America Q&A that clearly indicates that September days count.

I was wondering how many others heard that the other night. Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'll shoot Roch a note to confirm 110%.

On (1) perhaps he is misunderstanding or misspoke regarding what others have Sid about September not being an issue because of roster expansion? Just a thought.

    • Welcome.  Hard to hear and it goes fast but I think I got it for the most part.
    • Great job @Ripken with the on the fly transcribing. I think "Jacob" gets the open-ended question award - at least that was the only one in the part I got to hear where Elias chose to name the individual questioner in his answer.     I assume that's Jacob Calvin Meyer. Question was like "When FA opens November 5th, if things go according to plan, will the payroll be higher next year?" Elias used his aplomb to say some stuff about the uncomfortability of "dancing for Jacob", but got to "Yeah".    Then added word salad "upward slope".
    • Rivera performed way above his normal level. I'm sure there's other examples, I was sticking with the Yankees in the example. Your body functions and works differently when it is and isn't under the influence of an adrenaline rush to the point that I would say you're in an altered state where the way your body works and reacts changes and you have to get it under control and adapt to it. Failure to do so means you end up shaking like a leaf and almost lose your motor control. Being able to manage it adequately means you can function pretty much the same as you do any other time and for some people, it takes them to a whole other level. I've experienced all of these personally though not in the circumstances of a professional athlete trying to perform in front of thousands of people as I'm sure many people here could also say. Adrenaline is powerful stuff and is also released with cortisol. They are stress hormones. I think I would define "clutch" as your ability to perform while in the midst of such a state. It's a whole different ballgame pardon the pun. Perhaps it's odd, but that's how I see it basically. I'm used to being odd, so I feel right at home. 😎
    • Yep.  Just total bs. If he can’t handle that, which is less than previous years, we have a real problem.
    • Completely agree on Mateo and his value overall. Hopefully people remember this next season when the inevitable calls for him to not make the roster out of ST, or to be DFA at some point, will be set to begin.    Same with Urias. The value of guys like this has always been clear to anyone who looks beyond one or two stats. Not saying they will hold that value interminably, but there should be a lesson here. There won’t be, but there should be.
    • I absolutely love Rooker. If Oakland is open to trading him we should be all over it.
    • The Orioles handling of players like Mayo is very frustrating. It was pretty clear that his future was not at 3B and yet they played him very little at 1B. They keep doing this with prospects and it is really stupid. Mayo should already be an experienced first baseman.
