Playing good baseball wins. Pitching only takes you so far. The 1972 Orioles allowed 430 runs all season (let that sink in for a minute - I'm pretty sure the '96 Orioles had allowed 430 runs by late June). And they finished with the 11th-best record in baseball.

Agreed. Saying that, I do think our inconsistent starting pitching (primarily Tillman and Norris) has been our biggest problem.

]Wait' date=' why is this thread full of defensive stuff. I thought we were talking about offense. [/b']No doubt in my mind the offense in RF and DH is just as good this year as it was last year, but perhaps someone will pull up some numbers to challenge this.

Cause when we talked about offense, a few people brought up Nick's defense and overall value perhaps being better than De Aza/Young/Snider despite the offensive numbers.
