Even with all of his errors this season, Manny rates as a plus defender

His dWAR is at 0.6... adding up with his oWAR he's been a 1.4 rWAR player this year. Is his range just so insane that it makes up for the errors? Or do the errors really not mean much in the defensive calculations? I'm trying to understand why he still rates so high.

And he's still tied for 10th best dWAR in the AL this year.

Let's stop using dWAR for one. rWAR uses DRS and rated him as plus a day ago at a plus 13 rate per season. DRS does not really consider errors. They use plus minus system and other enhancements. UZR had him at a minus rate. UZR counts errors. Both systems had his range well above average. UZR also had his DP rate above averge as I recall.

As Drungo explained in a response to me the other day, dWAR includes a positional adjustment, and since 3B is one of the difficult positions, an average 3B will have a positive dWAR because of that adjustment. So, part of that +0.6 is the positional adjustment, but I don't know exactly what portion.

Fangraphs has Manny slightly in negative territory, at -0.2 Def., -0.7 UZR.

I haven't watched as many games as I usually do, due to travel and other interruptions, but my impression is that Manny's errors and great plays have been about a wash. But we are used to a much higher standard from him.
