I'll be taking my kid to Miami tonite for the game.

Anybody know what hotel the team is staying in?

A lot of teams used to stay in the Westin, but not as much as they used to.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Nobody?

I have no info, but I would assume the players would rather not have fans tracking them down at their hotel on away games.

I could be wrong though.

I went on a package deal to Boston once where we stayed at the team hotel. The players devise ways to aviod the fans. This was in the late 90's and they would send Brady Anderson down and as the fans would swarm him a half dozen players would sneak by. Back elevators were also used to hide. I rode down an elevator with Joe Orsalak and didn't recognize him because he had his hair spiked up like a punk rocker.

My sister used to work at Cross Keys in the 70's and early 80's when a bunch of MLB and NFL teams stayed there. The players were pretty nice as long as you didn't keep bugging them.

I stayed in Franklin Lakes, NJ about 9 years ago when an NBA team was there. I rode an elevator with several of them (they had about 2 feet height on me). They were just normal dudes, but I also had no clue who they were, wasn't trying to hound them or ask for autographs or anything. I would imagine being in the public spotlight all the time gets to be annoying, which is why I would not go actively seeking players out at their hotel on an away game.

The Nats and Mets stay at the JW Marriott Marquis. The Orioles are probably at the Budget Inn.:) Some media guides also list opposing teams hotels. This is subject to change of course. The Orioles don't go to Miami a lot so no hotel is shown. Most opposing teams might use two or three hotels in that city.

The rumor was that Cal used to stay at a different hotel than the rest of the Birds.

Now that Manfred has said that the Orioles would have to pay up sooner or later on the MASN dispute. I think the Orioles are staying here:

Yesterday, CBS's Early Show travel editor Peter Greenberg visited the Continental. Here's what he had to say:

There is terrible water damage in this hotel -- mold, peeling paint, cracked walls. You really need to consider that when you're in a place like Miami Beach -- the heat and water in the air must really be taken into consideration -- you don't want to end up in a bacteria haven like this place.

We lived in the Cross Keys Village back when teams often used the hotel, but don't recall ever seeing anyone notorious. However, Oprah Winfrey was our neighbor. Nice lady....think she moved to Chicago or something.

I believe the older media guides used to tell where the O's were staying. I recall Greg Olsen giving my kids autographs and talking to them for a couple of minutes, also Mickey Tettleton (and some others). All were polite and seemed not to be bothered by it. Also, caught the Dodgers in Philly at The Hershey Hotel (not sure if it still exists). Caught T-Bone Shelby on the elevator, very friendly and talked about the west to east time zone problems. Also, Tommy Lasorda sat at the table next to us at morning brunch. Nice to see them in a more relaxed setting. On the other hand I never bothered Cal Ripken. I have a dozen balls of the type they used for the game, orange and black stitching 2031 etc...someday have to try to catch up to him. I used to give the stuff to players I was coaching. They seemed to like it.
