So, we're supposed to forget the Giles drinking stuff. Check. But, the Giles steroid rumors "bother" Angelos (to some extent). But, in vetoing a trade for a rumored steroid user (Giles), he kept a player (Roberts) who has also been painted with the steroids brush (by Grimsley?). Not to mention nixing any/all trades involving Tejada -- who has also been "rumored" to be involved with steroids.
Big difference...Those are "his guys"..His "fan favorites".

I still can't get away from the theory that Giles was connected with not one, but two things that could cause the Orioles some more unneeded bad publicity, drinking and steroids, and that F&D still thought fit to recommend to Angelos that we trade for him. That goes beyond bad judgement, IMHO, if this were the case.

Another thing, F&D must have known that Giles was likely to be a one-year rental. Everyone knew he wanted to go to San Diego to be with his brother. I thought there were rumors that we were going to flip Giles in another trade. If so, this would make this Deep Throat story about PA moot.

Hey, I don't want to start any rumors based on speculation or anything...but check out Fancy Pants Markakis here.

SG, see if you can work up a trade for our boy who likes his Jack Daniels, apparently. ;)

If Angelos were an owner who seldom meddled, then no one object to his interveining in this particular trade since the consensus seems to be it was a bad idea. All owners meddle to some degree or an other, and they should. No matter how much they trust their GM's if there is a decision that they strongly disagree with they would be stupid to let it happen. And that doesn't mean they should then fire the GM. The fact that Angelos meddles too much shouldn't necessarly preclude him from meddling in this instance. He just shouldn't be making a habit of it.
