The last two weeks have been quite the roller coaster

I said it after the 5 game losing streak: this is an 85-win team. If everything breaks out right, they might exceed that a bit. Will it be enough to make the postseason? Maybe, but they will have to win the AL East.

I have to say that Nolan Reimold may be the best defensive OFer in the history of the game if he can just get healthy. For a guy that "can't even look up" right now, he has played some really good D out there.:laughlol:

He did well. And I saw him look up. I was impressed.

Sorry Weamsie, I just couldn't resist. Reimold has always been my Boy, and it hurts when folks hammer him. Kinda like many years ago for me, when someone would downgrade Boog Powell. Thems fightin' words! Lol. Again, I just could not hold back no matter how hard I tried.

So I missed the last few innings to go play soccer, and when I got in the car after the game they were interviewing Reimold on the radio and mentioned that he set a team high this year with his eight outfield assists. I thought, wow, that's pretty remarkable. Probably an all time record. Yea... they didn't mean assists.

1. Lose five in a row.

2. Win six out of seven, including four in a row.

We're right back where we started, one game under .500. Time to keep climbing!

Its the difference between playing a good team in Houston and two not so good teams in the Indians and Red Sox. The Yankee will be a challenge.

I don't see it completely that way. Before the Astros we lost 2 of 3 to the Rays, who are meh. That's where the 5-game losing streak started. We beat the Astros 2 of 3 in Baltimore and lost 2 of 3 to a lousy Miami team before that. Obviously, it is harder to beat a good team than a bad one, but in general, we weren't playing very well. The return of Wieters and awakening of Jones is making a big difference.

Jones: 1.147 OPS in April, .566 in May, 1.066 so far in June (though he started the month 0 for 7 in two losses). Talk about roller coasters!

It was so much easier after 2005. Until Duquette messed that all up.

And Andy MacPhail. He last reported to work for the Orioles on October 31, 2011, but his legacy continues to benefit the Orioles in Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, and anyone who we've traded for using the other pieces we got from that deal, directly or indirectly, including any money we cashed out some of those players for that we have since spent on someone else.

To put it simply, that was an incredible deal. Even if Bedard had turned out much more favorably for the Mariners and given them a good solid several years of being an ace like King Felix, we'd have still gotten the better end of the deal due to the sheer value we've gotten from the players they traded to us.

I don't know how much of that was MacPhail's genius and how much was the Mariners' GM's desperation/stupidity at the time, but MacPhail certainly had a big hand in it, and it's still benefiting us today.

    • Elias wants to win this season.  In the evaluation of money vs winning with talent I think winning will be more important.
    • But he will tell you that every Os prospect is the greatest player of all time.
    • It's not his opinion.   I can see that Almeyda is working out with the Delmarva team and have seen video of him in ST games and he looks like he belongs.   Just my opinion that he has a chance.    He's in a different situation than the average Latin FA signing.   Aron Estrada, who had a great DSL campaign apparently isn't working out with Delmarva.  Braylin Tavera isn't.    Almeyda is.
    • That's the thing is it's not like it's some scrap-heap scrub taking his rotation spot. It's Tyler Wells, who is young and good. He doesn't have the ceiling, sure, but he's a guy we found and finished developing and he goes out there and competes well. If they optioned Grayson in favor of Watkins or Voth, or some guy they claimed on waivers, or even Zimmermann, then I'd take a lot more issue with it than I do.
    • Where are you reading this?   If it’s stuff from Eric_Birdland I wouldn’t make too much of it.   I enjoy his photos/videos but he doesn’t have much of a track record of being very discerning IMO.
    • I have to believe this is a short term setback for GRod.   And I feel good that the O's have 5 starters that are better that him at the moment and that GRod, Hall, Means, Voth and Watkins are all there to help.
    • In my experience, it typically takes 6-8 weeks before significant roster moves occur, except in case of injury.  And there are sound reasons for that.  Players need to play without worrying that one bad week or two won’t affect their status.  I’ve watched for years as fans called for this player or that to be replaced based on a cold start, and it never happens as fast as some fans want.   So now we come to Frazier, in whom the O’s invested $8 mm.   The guy is a respected veteran with a track record.  He is not going to lose playing time if he has a slow 17 days.  Do I think he’ll get as long a leash as Odor?   $8 mm vs. $700 k would say yes, but I don’t necessarily think so, because the alternatives are further along in their development.   But, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, because I’m expecting Frazier to play significantly better than Odor did last year.  So, we’ll just have to see. Elias did address Westburg specifically yesterday: “He’s really close,” Elias said. “He’s had 400 plate appearances in Triple-A, he’s had this really good spring training now under his belt. He continues to open eyes. When we’ve viewed our big-time prospects to be ready  - Adley, Gunnar - we bring them up, and so far they’ve done pretty well, and a big part of it is because I feel like we know what we’re doing with these promotions. We want guys of this caliber to come up and stay up. “I don’t like sending guys up and back. We’ve had to do it with DL Hall just because of some circumstances with his health and his innings and all that stuff. But I want these guys to come up and stay, and I expect that’s going to be the case for Westburg, I expect that it’s going to be soon, and I expect he’s going to do really well. But I feel like we have a systematic way of assessing when these guys are ready to come up and impact the team and be there to stay. We’ll let the track record kind of speak to that.” https://www.masnsports.com/blog/rodriguez-lester-o-hearn-cordero-and-westburg-among-orioles-camp-cuts So, we’ll see what they do, but I’m guessing 6-8 weeks before we see Westburg, unless there are injuries or trades.   And how much he plays once he’s up remains to be seen.
