D.J. Stewart Press Conference On July 3

Orioles first round pick to speak to the media at 1 p.m.

The Aberdeen IronBirds will hold a press conference for Orioles first round pick, D.J. Stewart at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 3. Media members who would like to attend must contact Media Relations Director, Daniel Kurish at dkurish@ripkenbasball.com by 10 a.m. on July 3.

The 25th overall pick in the draft comes to Aberdeen after three years at Florida State University, where he hit .344 in 117 total games. Stewart earned ACC Player of the Year honors his sophomore season, when he hit .351 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs.

In 64 games this season, the 21-year-old hit .318 with a career-high 15 homers and 59 RBIs. He also stole 12 bases and led the nation in walks with 69. His on-base percentage was .500.

Stewart became the first outfielder taken in the first round by the Orioles in 12 years, the last was Nick Markakis in 2003. He was originally drafted back in the 28th round of 2012 by the New York Yankees out of Jacksonville?s Bolles School, but elected to attend Florida State instead. While in high school, Stewart won five state championships: three in football, two in baseball. He is also the Orioles? first, first round pick since 2013. Baltimore had to wait until the third round to make a selection during the 2014 draft.

On top of his athletic successes, Stewart was a two-time Academic All-American, posting a 3.35 GPA his final semester at Florida State.
