Making room for Reimold's return

Definitely. This would be a rare situation with Gausman where optioning him to the minors actually keeps him on a normal schedule. The dude needs innings. He's thrown just 34 innings period this year.

I'll agree he needs to pitch since he needs experience and chances to sharpen his craft.

He still doesn't need innings.

Not unless Buck wants to ride him like a thoroughbred next season.

Last year Gausman threw a total of 158 innings. The rule of thumb is 30 or so innings increase the following year. Currently he has 34 IP he'll be lucky to make 120 innings by the end of the season. That puts him around 150 for next year. That's why he needs to get as many innings in the rest of the way. They don't want to have to shut him down before the season is over.

163 innings in 2014.

Which means he is good for 193 next season.

So he has 2 days to save his roster spot?

Since his first two games he is 9-52. In that time span he has 2 walks and 17 strikeouts. That's not good enough for a 1B/DH. Snider, Lough, and Pearce definitely should not be moved in favor of Parmelee considering they all have better track records offensively and can play better outfield (Pearce can play a better 1B too). Reimold is the only one that should possibly be moved in favor of Parmelee but the righty bat is key off the bench. Flaherty should also stay with the club considering he can play virtually anywhere and is the backup SS.

Parmelee needs to be given a chance by a last place team with no 1B, a team that can put him out there every day for a season and not worry about the circumstances. With Napoli playing the way he is, the Pink Sox might love to have him.

According to Fangraphs it was 158 and 2/3, but why quibble. Unless he throws 160 this season, which isn't likely, he wont throw 193 next.

They left off the playoffs.

I don't think you understand how this works (big surprise). One a pitcher sets a new inning ceiling that is the ceiling that is used going forward. It doesn't reset to a lower level.

Flaherty isn't going anywhere, IMO. Need a backup SS, and plus he can play anywhere really. He's safe. It's not looking so good for Parmelee or Reimold, however.

Pearce has been taking ground balls at SS. Flaherty can be optioned.
