I know you feel that. I think it is a hoot how the first big sexy splash season turned out though. You know I have to chuckle. It's in my nature.

There is a bit of schadenfreude when you're told over and over again that the Orioles can't be successful unless they follow a model not unlike the Padres. You know, going for it and trading for big expensive players. And despite the fact this hasn't been a smooth season the Orioles go into the break with a much better record than the Padres. And Matt Kemp has been quite a bit worse than Travis Snider.

The playing two DH's and a CO in the AL West went pretty smoothly.

I never got that. I stress over and over that GMs today are not dumb, and they have reasons for most everything they do. But looked at that plan and thought Ryan Howard contract. How do you plan on playing a DH in center field every day?

There is a school of thought that outfield defense isn't as important as outfield offense. :noidea:

Doesn't seem like the right division to try that theory out.

What if they attached Will Myers to Kemp as a way to get rid of Kemp.

Something like Kemp, Myers for M.Wright, C.Walker and Reimold/Snider

Have Myers and Kemp be your corner OF's in 2016. A type of trade where we can buy and sell.

You realize that SD got almost all the Kemp reduction this year, right?

This is a bit silly. No one does what the Padres did the offseason. That's what made it so noteworthy.

Further, their starting point was a lot lower than Baltimore's. If anything it's a lessen that it's nearly impossible to fill a ton of holes in one offseason, since every move isn't going to work out.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would argue that against Duquette had he decided to trade for Upton and Kimbrel.

I would have lost all faith if he'd traded for Kemp and even half his salary.

Yikes. Swing and a miss from Rany.

Preller did not take enough time to figure out what he had. Rant didn't give Preller enough time to see what he could do. Bad off season, sure, but thinking all these prospect they traded away are can't miss is foolish, and like the article acknowledged Upton, Maurer, Kimbrel might be three of the biggest trade chips at the deadline.
