Hold or Sell but FTLOG Don't Buy

With the mass exodus around the corner, the last thing this team needs to do is buy at the deadline. Don't do it, DD. We'll need all the young arms and bats we can get next year.

And anyone who thinks this team is "just one guy" away from making the playoffs is seriously deluded. This team is either going to pull themselves out of their rut or they aren't. One extra bat or arm isn't going to make the difference.

All the talent they need is already there. It just needs to play better.

Yup, exactly. And for some of this talent (ahem, ahem, Davis, Wieters, Norris), there's also some serious cash at stake. If that can't motivate them -- and aside from maybe Davis, it doesn't seem to have so far -- then so be it. They'll get their just desserts this offseason.

Talent? We have 2 guys that are really good - Manny and Adam

Then we have 2 others that are great defensively but offensively challenged (JJ and Schoop)

This team as constructed is so frustrating to follow.

Compared with the other teams in the division, they have the best defense, the second best pitching, and the third best offense. That should be enough.

Let's say the Yankees run away with the division. Then we're competing with the Rays, Jays, Sox, Tigers, Astros and Twins for the two wild card spots. Getting a vet bet and a reliever won't be crippling to the farm.

No because quality relievers do not cost anything right *cough..Eduardo...cough*

You never get anything of quality cheap at the trade deadline.

I could argue that losing Arrietta and Strop was every bit as big a loss as Eduardo Rodriguez, and yet Scott Feldman helped us get into the playoffs down the stretch.Stiil, we don't have many "pieces" to offer except Gausman or Bundy.Gausman to me is untouchable, and Bundy is damaged goods.

We traded for Feldman and Bud Norris in 2013, in a futile attempt to make the playoffs. At least Bud helped us back to the postseason in 2014. So the Feldman trade turned out to be pretty much an unmitigated disaster, although to be fair there's no guarantee that Arietta would have ever figured it out in Baltimore.

With how things have been going with our prospects, I have half a mind to trade them all. Not for rentals like Miller last year but if they can get proven talent that's under control for 2-3 years or more, why not? You might get burned on some deals but overall you'll probably come out ahead.
