Steve Melewski on Ariel Miranda:

"Cuban left-hander Ariel Miranda, signed by the Orioles in May, made his Bowie debut last night. It was a good one. Miranda went six innings at Harrisburg, allowing four hits and one unearned run. He walked two, fanned seven and threw 55 of 82 pitches for strikes.

The 26-year-old Miranda made five starts with Single-A Frederick before his promotion to the Baysox. In his last two Frederick starts, he was 1-0 with an ERA of 0.82. He pitched six no-hit innings in his final outing for the Keys."

He had a decent start the other night, but I would like to see him moved to Norfolk to fill one of the holes in the rotation left by the Davies trade and Wright being called up. Plus, he will have a few familiar faces to help with his acclimation to the US. I think he is a sleeper to make the 2016 roster and would like to see what he can do at AAA. Do you think this is rushing things?

I would rather move Terry Doyle up. That guy has been gold for Bowie. Let Miranda have a few more outings and if he is good then maybe look at him in the bullpen in September. Could be a cheap solution to replace Matusz if we non-tender Matusz.

We have Cabral for the bullpen and he is already on the 40 man roster. Better to keep Miranda starting.

Even in September when AAA is over?

Seems like Norfolk is going to the playoffs and if they go deep players wouldn't be available until around mid month. Now i know we will call up pitchers and a catcher on the 1st, but no reason to block a 40 man spot in Sept and the winter for Miranda.
