I don't think the White sox would just want Gausman. He is under team control. They would want more.

I would be fine with that because Sale is an absolute stud. I just don't want them to trade Gausman for Gomez or Hamels which will be terrible moves.

Deal Gausman?

If they do this they are mad.

And I am madder.

I was trying to take a break from this board, but this will do it for me.

Nobody should be untradeable, but DD doesn't have anything close to AM's acumen. In fact, he kinda scares me a little. The one guy we traded for Snider (yes, we actually gave up something for him) pitched a no-hitter (Tarpley). Not sure if people realized that. Erod was a tough call. I just wish Miller would have gotten serious consideration in the offseason. Either him or Cruz. Regardless, I would be very careful what you wish for. DD is depleting our system and filling it with folks playing below their competition level in may cases (yes, winning does matter for the farm system but Brandon Snyder playing AA ball isn't fooling anyone).

To me, it isn't even close. I am a "win-now" guy I guess you would say but this team doesn't have it. Too many holes. Too many off-years. The AL East can be won reasonably easy IMO, but we aren't going to go much further than that without big pieces (pieces that we can't and shouldn't acquire).

I would sell Davis high to the Pirates or similar. There are few sellers right now and the yield could help stabilize the farm system and make us a winner for years out.

I would sell Chen as well if we can get a "haul".

If we can't get good pieces, roll with what you got and acquire a minor piece here or there but Gausman should not be a part of that equation. K Gausman and Harvey are keepers. Nobody wants Bundy for what we would want for him so forget about that.

I saw somebody post they are tired of reading about the debate? Not sure why that is the case. I think DD is asking that every day himself. Does he think he will be here in 3 years? That may factor into what he does.

Hamels is due roughly $23.5M in 2016-2018 with a $20M option in 2019. Then there is the $8M due the rest of this year. That is pushing $100M over the next 4.5 years....

I know. But right now, on the market, he is the only one I would consider because he is a bona fide #1. Angelos will never agree to a starting pitcher that much money though, so this wouldn't happen

I vehemently want to sell... but if DD is buying why wouldn't he consider Gausman along with everyone else. I like the kid but this org will not just put him in the rotation and let him go. Must be a reason for that, which is maybe that they don't think he's as good as most of us do. Does he have a third pitch yet?

I understood what you was saying, while at the same time, not in agreement, but I was following your thought process.

However, once you got to DD might be factoring future decisions based on if he would be here in 3 years, well, sorry, but I was done at that point.

My opinion, DD has too much integrity to play games like that.

There are no guarantees in this game, even with signed contracts, there is no guarantee what you will be doing in 3 years.

To even bring it up, is very insulting to DD.

Again, just my opinion.

I was going to write my own post, but you've summed up what I was going to say. The trade deadline is for sellers, we should explore getting some real talent for the next few years with the current rentals. Too many holes, too many off years, agreed. Out of Wieters, Snider, Hardy, Pearce, we needed 2 of them to have above average years... all 4 have been underwhelming. Also Norris/Tillman.

For a rental? Hell no.

For a player with several years of control left, i.e. Jay Bruce? I would probably consider it.

You would trade Gausman for Jay Bruce??? I like Jay Bruce (concerned about him outside of that park a tad). No way. Pass.

It is very clear to many that we have a very good opportunity to improve the team significantly for the long-term here and help a farm-system depleted of positional talent.

That doesn't mean you have to "blow it up". The AL East is weak this year. You could trade Davis and Chen and probably still compete for the title by adding another bat and promoting Givens/Beato.

    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
    • emmett16 is right. Uppercut swings produce a lot of groundouts because the bat is not on the same plane as the ball for very long. The best swing stays on the same plane as the ball for a longer time. This will produce contact that creates backspin on the ball which makes it carry. That Ted Williams book is one of the best hitting books ever written.
