Chris Jones Today, 2015

Maybe, but I can't get excited about him as a starter. He'll be 27 this month and has given up 10 more hits than innings pitched this season. He's nice organizational depth.

I agree.

I feel that way about Jones, and about Terry Doyle.

And it's why I think that ONE OF THEM should have been promoted and been pitching in place of Miguel Gonzalez 2 starts ago.

Joe Gunkel and Ariel Miranda are long-term prospects, so I would rather save them, and not rush them. And since Miguel Gonzalez has been absolutely awful, I would rather throw Jones and Doyle to the proverbial wolves than Gunkel or Miranda.

That's what they are there for ...... organizational depth (but not long-term prospects) that are the ones to call on in a pinch when one of your usually reliable starters is hurt or pitching horribly, and at the same time, spare the true long-term prospects (such as Gunkel and Miranda) from having to be rushed.

I rarely question the decisions of Showalter and Duquette, but I think that they choked by not putting Gonzalez ion the DL 2 starts ago, and bringing up either Jones or Doyle ...... neither one of them could have been any worse than Gonzalez has been, and Gonzo certainly needed the break.

And you were spot on. They should have. Most agreed then and they did nothing but watch MGon continually be ineffective. I can't figure that decision out....
